Yeah I mean he played two extremely memorable arguably ATG knocks that justifiably earned him a bit of rope as a player, but it's not like he was good for that whole period.

Re: the OP, I think he would've been ditched even if Australia did well. Or if he didn't, he merely would've been saved by their success. He's had an absolute horror run in international cricket and needs to have a spell to prove he's worth picking at full strength, which in ODIs at least he kind of never really did in the first place. Mitch Marsh who cops a lot of **** in other formats for largely justified reasons has been a better ODI cricketer than Stoinis across their careers, and I'd rather see him coming in at 5-6ish at this point if he was properly fit to bowl.

As much as MMarsh cops a hell of a lot if criticism for his Test career, myself included, he's a genuinely underrated ODI cricketer. If he was fully fit to bowl as well as bat he should be in the squad
