Unpopular Cricket Opinions

Batsmen shouldn't get extra credit for the home conditions they play in. Growing up in certain conditions, excelling in them to get picked for international cricket is an experience that should make you better equipped to deal with those conditions than batters who don't.
I get what you are saying, but there are a fair few conditions which just are more deficult to bat in than others. Like SA for example is just tougher than Australia, so much so that the majority of Saffas averages higher away than home. Shan't then Kallis gets credit for pulling 50+ in conditions Graeme Smith did 34 against non minnows??

I will be impressed by a batters adaptability to home and away conditions equally , Elgar averages 47 in SA but just 27 away from home ..

Most batsmen do well in their home grounds , but to have an all round solid record is more impressive to me.

No doubt I will too!! Most definitely! Just saying that some conditions are really tougher than others and doing better in them deserves credit accordingly.

Yes this. Doing well in "harder home conditions" doesn't count when your home stats are so much better than your away stats.

The ball wasn't swinging more. The sandpaper didn't even work for them. Rest of your comment is fair though tbh
Do you really believe the 3 of them hatched this plan and didn't discuss it with anyone? Why would they keep it a secret?

Sandpapergate was not limited to Smith, Warner, Bancroft. How could Starc not realise the ball is swinging more? Utterly ridiculous to think only those 3 knew. I'm sure the whole team knew.
Of course it wasn’t.

Everyone knew, they just didn’t say anything about it.

Dunno if this is unpopular or not but the bans imposed by Cricket Australia were ridiculous.

I don’t know if it is unpopular, but peak Ponting was better than the best of Lara and Tendulkar is one of mine
This reminds me of a chat we had about Batman v Spiderman (and I agree with your post, btw).

Peak Ponting/Batman was/is better than/had a higher ceiling that Lara/Tendulkar/Spiderman. But Lara/Tendulkar/Spiderman are/were more consistently at a "great" level.

Anyway the objectively most unpopular (and wrong) cricketing opinions are those which hold that Alex Tudor and Vikram Solanki weren't amazing.

Such Batman slander.

No other case of ball tampering has ever had a penalty applied even close to the magnitude, it is just an insane overreaction
Really? It was premeditated by bringing the sandpaper to the field. Worse than just picking the seam.

What I don't understand is why you are allowed to shine it on your pants, but not do other stuff. Logically, if you have pants made of sandpaper, why can't you rub the ball on that?

Yeah maybe. But for me personally outside of Batman himself and a few major antagonists, most of the rest of it is pretty mid. They're not directly comparable anyway imo, but Spiderman has greater variety and a more consistently interesting supporting cast for mine.

There has been PLENTY of other ball tampering incidents that were clearly premeditated throughout the history of cricket both before and after that day in Cape Town.

Precisely zero of them have ever been punished to that degree

No more pre meditated than bringing mints or other lollies onto the field.

Believe it or not, Australians believe in fair play. We hold ourselves to a higher standard.
No we don’t
