Boult's 5/27 against Australia at Eden Park in the 2015 WC was another great WC bowling effort. I had been skeptical about his inclusion over McClenaghan and Henry but he was amazing that day.

Henry's 3/37 in the 2019 semi final less statistically impressive but had a huge impact at a crucial time.
Yeah Boult’s spell was McCullum captaincy-era NZ at its best, the aggressive route backed by some intelligent defensive work (Vettori’s spell prior to that) paying off. Australia looked genuinely spooked. Too bad NZ had ceded some major psychological ground by the end of that game.

If I go by a few friends and cricket twitter, Henry’s spell will live long in the memory for Indian followers.

No one going to talk about Andy McKay's 1-37 off 9.5 in the 2011 World Cup semi final, fresh off a plane as an SOS at the pointy end of the tournament and dismissing Sangakkara at a critical time?!?!

But yeah Bond's haul in the 2003 World Cup > Southee in 2015. No doubt Southee knocked England all over the place but Australia were by far the most dominant team in the world, based around their powerhouse batting, and England were pathetic in that edition.

Predictable. Interested in this quote, though:

"We have an amazing relationship with TVNZ and we're looking forward to continuing and developing that relationship over the balance of our agreement, and potentially after that in respect of free-to-air T20Is and the Super Smash."

Yeah, I'm not surprised, but I do find it slightly curious. I wonder if that's NZC insisting on keeping Super Smash from going behind the paywall to grow the audience (because, let's face it: the audience it has now is probably the biggest it's ever had over its nearly 20 year history), or Sky not being interested in it?

Or, my conspiracy theory time: Sky's not interested in Super Smash because they support BBL involvement to drive ratings on Sky.

I don't think I've seen anyone scarier with the white ball than starc in that tournament. Touching 150kph consistently, banana swing, you know exactly where he's bowling it but it doesn't matter. Made Ross and Elliott look like no11s.

yeah starc in that tournament was the most lethal bowling i have ever seen ... as close as you're gonna get to unplayable ... only 2 guys who seemed to have a handle on him were james taylor in the first aussie match and mccullum in round 1 ... round 2 he had no clue tho

Real shame, it's been fantastic seeing cricket on free to air TV. At least we get one more season before the rights swap over.

Indeed. It could be worse too - if the SuperSmash is still on FTA then we'll still have something to watch, but the Tests man... the Tests. I'll probably just go to the ground more instead or something like that. I wonder if there might still be algorithm-led highlights packages on FTA.

If there's a particular test series you're looking forward to you (like that Australia one in a couple of years) could look at just the month pass for Sky Sport Now then cancel after. It's $50 atm although going up to $55 a month soon.

The good thing about the NZ tests summer only lasting about a fortnight, is you'll only need to turn on sky now for a single month.

Tim Roxborough has done 4 top XI's now. The first is the same as Styris's one except with Hadlee in for Southee. His second one is pretty good.

BLACK CAPS ALL-TIME ODI 2ND XI:

1: Turner
2: Fleming
3: Jones
4: Mitchell
5: Latham (wk)
6: Styris
7: Elliot
8: Santner
9: Mills
10: Henry
11: Morrison

Good info. It's a dilemma though - rarely do I get the chance to sit down and watch a Test match at home, but I'd certainly miss it if I didn't have it on in the background all day whilst I do all of those things that need to get done. I'll probably go over to Australia for some of that series; though that'll depend a bit on whether I also go over for some the Ashes.

Good side, although tough on Chatfield, Twose, and Oram/Harris.

Roxborogh’s teams suggest pretty good cricket knowledge, but he lost me with his justification for not selecting Larsen. Either he doesn’t understand the mathematical interrelationship of strike rate/economy rate, or I just really disagree with his assessment of which is more important.

In another edition of “look up CI stats and make sweeping judgements” I saw a twitter thread where Fleming was in strong consideration for “worst batsman to make 7K/8K runs” or something along those lines.

Yeah he may not have been Sachin or even Ganguly in the format but averaging 32 in his time was acceptable enough, and a high percentage all of his centuries and bigger scores were made when the team really needed it. Also coped rather well with getting the captaincy of an average and somewhat dysfunctional side at the age of 23.
