*Unofficial* New Zealand Black Caps Thread

The added workload in 2015 may have affected his long-term ceiling though. Definitely lost a yard of pace after his 2015 stress fracture that he never quite fully recovered.

Jamieson really has been quite dominant in the NZ domestics so far since returning from injury.

The way he and Matt Henry have really dominated, is not replicated by the other blackcap bowlers this season.

However, 5th seamer in the squad ? .... sounds like a pointless plane trip.
Yeah, Jamieson seemed to be on another level in the Super Smash. I would love to see him in the ODI side. His height just makes him so awkward. Apparently Younghusband said it's like facing someone bowling off a roof. I thought Shipley also looked in great form in the Super Smash too.

I think from memory he was bowling in the low 140 kph range in tests pre-stress fracture. Seemed to be more mid-late 130's after?

I find it a little weird how Jamieson can be so good in the other two formats, yet be middling to bad in One-Dayers. I guess it's like Rachin in T20, but it still feels weird.

Prior to his performances in the Super Smash this year Jamieson was being described as a very potent red ball bowler but somebody who didn't have much of a clue when it came to white ball cricket. He was bought for huge money on an IPL contract based on what he had done in test cricket, and then pretty much couldn't live up to the hype. That was then, some water has flowed under the bridge and he is an older and perhaps wiser cricketer. So if can become a weapon in T20 cricket as he has done this year, there must be reason to think he can get it together in 50 over cricket as well.

I saw him bowl well in the Super Smash against Otago early on in the comp, but looking at what he did after that some of his better performances have included:
0/16 against Wellington on 22 Jan, economy rate 5.33 off 3 overs.
4/12 against eventual competition winners CD on 26 Jan, economy rate 3 off 4 overs.
3/19 against ND on 1 Feb, economy rate 4.75 off 4 overs.
2/24 against CD on 2 Feb, economy rate 6 off 4 overs.
Then in List A
1/25 against CD on 14 Feb, economy rate 3.12 off 8 overs.

Lou seems to be fully rehabilitated these days, viewed as a vulnerable guy who got railroaded into doing bad things by some genuinely bad people. His honesty in ultimately confessing all and his period of punishment have redeemed him in the eyes of most.
Yeah he's a decent bloke. Made a poor decision and paid for it dearly. Great to see him in a good space again.

NZ WC squad 2015 has the live reactions

Dang I was getting hammered for daring to sheepishly argue that the evidence suggested that Mills was a better ODI bowler than Southee heading into the WC. Turns out ODI Mills>>>>>>>>ODI Southee 😎

Tbf, Southee did produce NZ's greatest ever WC bowling performance (albeit in a match where NZ were probably always massive favourites to win anyway).

The argument in question was after that performance and was framed more like ‘we all now know that Southee is an elite ODI bowler but are we still allowed to say that pre-tournament there was an argument that Mills was better, without being banned from CW?”.

Even I didn’t have the courage to suggest at the time that Southee would do anything other than continue to be an elite ODI bowler (whereas he kinda became a generationally **** ODI bowler almost as soon as he’d taken that 7-for)

I reckon Bond's 6-fer when we lost to Australia in 2003 in SA was better than Southee's 7-fer vs a very weak England side.
Boult's 5/27 against Australia at Eden Park in the 2015 WC was another great WC bowling effort. I had been skeptical about his inclusion over McClenaghan and Henry but he was amazing that day.

Henry's 3/37 in the 2019 semi final less statistically impressive but had a huge impact at a crucial time.
