The Hutt Rec

International Vice-Captain
Tbh though, whats so special or good about Mitch santner being captain? Great cricketer for us but is he leadership material? At this point I feel we need to get away from these boring dullard characters like williamson santner southee and stead for a bit. Phillips, or daz mitchell would be a positive minded choice as skip. The whole BC's setup needs a bit of excitement injected into, gosh its become so boring and senior citizen-lite. Stead out here larping as a 52 yo when he's clearly at least 76.
Completely blown away by the fact he’s only 52 …

Tim Seifert has signed a multi year deal with one of the Melbourne 20/20 teams. Would say that’s him done as a NZ player.

Not necessary. Neesham played some BBL games last season & was still in NZ white-ball squads thereafter, although it certainly won't work in Seifert's favour.

I hope it's not over for him, as I still think he has plenty to offer in T20Is, and I think he's improved his game since he was made to look like a muppet in that series vs. Australia's pace bowlers 2-3 years ago.

Another sign of the apocalypse. A bog average player like Seifert who at 29 (one year short of the prime years in Stead's eyes!) has given up on having an NZ career and becomes a for hire slogger.

Funny that. He's only missing Super Smash. He's still available for PS & FT, at least until the BPL gets interested. The Brave will suffer big time, but that disaster of a 23-4 campaign (SK in the top order, yikes) means I'm numbed to it.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
I think Stuff or Herald described the squad as "spin heavy" but a more accurate description would be "spin bowling all rounder heavy" and I say that as a big fan of Glenn Phillips bowling.

Would be nice to see a second specialist spin bowler there, but that wouldn't fly with the "cover all bases and bat deep for safety" attitude of Stead.

It's on-brand to be mad about Macewell making the squad, but tbh I don't know what other spinner (because that's how they think of him) should be there instead.

Ashok has been injured, might still be idk. Sodhi that apex predator must be locked in a cage somewhere about to devour his gaolers and let loose. Rippon went downhill. Tim Pringle doesn't seem to have developed much lately. So Ajaz + Santner + Phillips + Rachin + Macewell seems about as good a group of spin bowlers as we have atm.

Pringle's out injured. Will be for a while, didn't even get a domestic contract this season due to it.
