Hot take - Tom Latham is a better ODI player than he is a Test player. He's played a significant amount of important knocks over the past 3 years, starting with the World Cup final, and big knocks in crunch run chases most importantly. He gives a better balance to the side by being a keeper in the top 5, is our best player of spin through the middle stages, also plays pace well and can finish OK. He's in our best XI every day of the week, for me.

To me, you can still get Allen in, and you have to. 1. Guptill 2. Allen 3. Williamson 4. Conway 5. Latham 6. Mitchell 7. Neesham 8. Santner 9. Southee 10. Ferguson 11. Boult
no southee in aus...

Pretty cheeky from the Lord. I generally think everything he touches is gold and his poo is off white with no scent at all, but not this time.
I was going to ask what your thoughts were on the situation. Could it simply be ignorance from CdG, or is this kind of contractual stuff drilled into the players constantly?

Surely he can't have not known given how Boult's decision to end his NZC contract in order to make hay in the T20 leagues has been all over the news for the past month.

I'm not sure it was the deepest process tbh

"Hi Colin, BBL here. Hit sixes, get money."

"ok"

also he's 36 and Mitchell + Neesham are killing it rn while he's been injured. he probably figures if nzc get mad then oh well, he got paid.

Maybe he got word he wasn't in the plans for the Pakistan tour? I'm not really sure what to make of it really. He could play the 4 rounds of Plunket Shield in October and then go over and play in the BBL, playing all of the available domestic first-class cricket should be enough to be considered for the February England tests, but it's a bit strange.

...but it's a bit strange.
I wonder how many other players were available but not on the 332 player list announced a week ago? And did the other teams know de Grandhomme was available, or perhaps had the Strikers done an unofficial pre-auction deal? Adelaide Advertiser website has a BBL story but is paywalled. The other Aussie new sites I checked don't have much commentary outside the 1st round platinum picks / non-picks.

Deep inside Strikers HQ .... "Hey, what about that that big-hitting Kiwi all-rounder that lost his contract" ... "Colin Munro?" ... "No, the other one" .... ""Neesham?" .... "Isn't he that Twitter guy?"... "Ah the other one, Colin de Bradman or something" ... "Yep that must the the one" ....

"New Zealand Cricket Players’ Association chief executive Heath Mills said it was a shock to de Grandhomme too. "

Complications aside, those Strikers selectors have to be living in 2017-18, or have rocks in their heads to think CDG is more valuable a T20 allrounder than Neesham. Unless it was due to budget restraints and Neesham was more expensive, seems a bizarre choice.

Neesham obviously isn’t well liked anywhere ? How all these no name English players pick up deals and he can’t makes absolutely no sense
