Seriously, **** INZ. Happy to give Conway’s gf residency in order to provide him with assurances that he’ll be let back into the country but can’t even get off their butts to give Foxcroft a visa. Hope he wins SA selection and hits the winning runs for SA to finally lift a WC.
Don't agree with this.
Conway's wife already met the visa requirements and already had the application pending somewhere in the backlog, and they were in-country. It was a paper decision, not prioritising someone through MIQ over others (although Conway does take a place in MIQ on his return ... admittedly, but for the pen pusher that is a step removed, and someone was taking it regardless)
Foxcroft is virtually trying to repeat an immigration/visa process he successfully did in 2018 when inwards migration was about 140,000 per year but is now about 30,000 per year restricted by MIQ so has a heck of a lot more compeition.
INZ are having to juggle returning citizens, skills shortages, and 'economic benefits' e.g. film crews, seasonal labour etc.
Have you tried to get an electrician or builder lately or a fruit picker? Where as an Otago middle order batsman who bowls off spin can literally be replaced by an un-contracted Dunedin born and bred youngster who was the best player in the last NZ U19s.
Foxcroft made a really poor decision literally against the advice of the foreign minister, he still got paid for another year to not play cricket. I'd welcome him back if he wants to try again after borders get to normal, I would understand if he didn't want to, and I feel its a shame he wasted a year being paid not to play domestically in SA by the OCA.
