*Unofficial* New Zealand Black Caps Thread

With every passing day as the WTC nears I'm starting to feel a bit of nervousness thinking how close this test match is going to be? The WC 19 One day finals and the Semi finals in 2015 probably put holes in the heart. Hoping this edition is going to be a healer.
Just emailed my boss saying I might take leave on the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (to recover) depending on how we go in the first few days of the match ... it's getting real, eep!

More New Zealanders watching cricket than ever before (espncricinfo.com)

The six matches screened live on TVNZ 1 reached 1.86 million viewers, while almost 240,000 Spark Sport viewers watched cricket during the summer. The most viewed T20I during the Australia series attracted 1.24 million viewers. The final ODI between New Zealand Women and Australia Women in Brisbane was viewed by 840,300 fans.

Don't think Wagner is retiring this year either. South Africa are touring next summer, a great chance for him to get one over the bastards who couldn't recognise his glory.

Not a lot of specifics there, but great news overall, particularly regarding the Supersmash and the audience for the New Years test v Pakistan. I think the NZC has a real chance to build some momentum around domestic cricket if it can keep putting a decent number of games on FTA and provide a bit of a window for the internationals to take part in at least some of it. That crowd at the Basin for the final was like nothing I've seen since the 1990's.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
When Taylor retires I'm sure he'd want to do it at home instead of overseas so playing through to the 21/22 home season (on a years contract) makes sense.

Haha can't blame you. This is going to go to the wire too, absolutely no doubt.

Every time I think of the upcoming finals I feel butterflies and sweaty palms. Didn't feel like this for the one day WC finals till the game day but this one has started already... I'm trying to convince myself it's just a game.

Not surprised by the numbers spark has put out. The way the black caps are going in the last few years even sky would have registered similar numbers anyways.

Happy to hear about the numbers (especially the test matches though what D. White makes of that remains to be seen). Now if only they'd fix those highlights packages...

I'm guessing England series is with Spark?
Yep, Spark have all English cricket for the next few years.

Look on the bright side, it means Scotty Stevenson is kept a nice long way from the coverage of the final. Spark probably would have had him commentating over the satellite feed for all five days.

I was already weighing up whether getting Spark Sports for basically the first session of the three tests was worth it, now without the WTC final, that decision becomes harder

Spark has full sessions saved, so if you can avoid spoiling yourself you can always watch sessions 2 and 3 the next morning.

That might work in the weekends (though I'd have to wait four hours before I can go onto CW) but would be difficult during the week...

True, though it's worth noting that if you 10-second skip forward through the gaps in between balls, wickets, overs and drinks breaks, you can probably rattle through a session in about a half hour.
