Henry is incumbent, but doesn't have a great track record in Aus, though small sample size. Boult-Ferguson-Jamieson probably has the most variety in terms of swing, pace, seam and bounce.Could care less about the World Cup at this stage. I just want them to win the Hadlee Chappell. There will be plenty of JAMODI's in the coming year or so to give Chapman, Seifert, Phillips & co some more opportunities.
I am interested to see who they go with the for the starting line-up. I really hope that Jamieson is included even though that would potentially be harsh on Henry.
He was missing from the squad against India too, I think. But yeah, he's well past it.Pleasantly surprised that Munro's missed the cut. Long overdue imho.
Young has been ok-ish since return. Got a few fifties across formats. A big one and I reckon the alarm bells go off inside NZC and he's in. I think common sense will prevail and we will only see Southee on the bench. Despite his extreme hot and cold form with the ball recently, I'd easily even have Kuggs in front of CDG or Southee. His batting looks in good touch but bowling is meh at the moment, seems to also be down on pace by 3-6 k's. A fit Bennett would surely come in for Southee. He's basically in the same boat, same sort of age, not going to the next ODI WC...but can at least bowl fast and not rely on nepotism.Would Bennett have made the squad even if fit?
Agree that Boult, Ferguson and Jaimeson should be the first choice attack, the additional batting depth from Jaimeson would be welcome. Can see the selectors being swayed once again by Southee's test form though.
Wish there was room for Young in the batting lineup, he played exceedingly well in those A games in Australia last year, right? Batting Guptill and Neesham, pretty much everyone in the top 8 figured in the test series and I don't think Australia would be complaining too much at being up against the same set.
Yeah agree, he's not quite set the domestic scene or A series on fire since returning. I'm just a bit concerned about the opportunity cost of delaying the introduction of fringe players into the national side (if that makes sense). Blundell for example had to wait a good 2 years after his debut to get into the playing XI (thanks to Raval's lean patch) and while he's done well he could have easily gone stale from his time on the outer.Young has been ok-ish since return. rubel in testsSouthee is a damn leach when it comes to white ball selection. He’s been terrible for five bloody years now, I don’t even think a Bangladeshi player would get away with being that horrible for this long nowadays
Who would you pick ahead of CdG for this series? Unless there is someone obviously ahead of him on form it seems very unfair to omit him from probably the most important ODI series NZ plays in. If they want to trial some future all-rounders there will presumably be plenty of opportunities against less testing opposition next home season.the squad lacks courage. i love him but im not sure cdg will be there in 2023. taylor has been pretty firm he wants to be there but ok i guess. southee should be a test specialist, as should blundell.
