Cricketer Of The Year
former Zimbabwe U19 rep. Has alot of batting potential..can also bowl.
He's been doing very well for his club side Howick and also for Auckland 'A'.

Ive heard he wants NZ citizenship. Im not sure Auckland would play him if he wasn't going to keep playing here.
That's good. Hope he can kick on. He was obviously a good prospect in Zimbabwe. To those who didn't see this game, it was noticable for a reverse-sweep for 6 by Reece Young. Only other player I've heard of who's done this (although I despise the shot) is KP. Anyone know of anyone else doing it?

Just seen his Cricinfo page. Looks to be one of those players who could be very big for us after coming to NZ from another country (like Twose, or Hick to England etc). Hopefully he will be. :)

Was just thinking, after the debacle that was the Commonwealth Bank Series, that a line-up that once seemed a deadlock for the World Cup is no longer such.

With the injury to Mills, who is gonna come into contention? Yes, we will probably end up playing Bond, Franklin & Gillespie as the specialist quicks, but who will back them up?

Tuffey, Mason? I think Chris Martin is a little bit too expensive in ODI, and Andre Adams is not really needed with the likes of Oram and Styris already in similar roles. Is it worth given Daryl Tuffey another shot?

Also, on the batting side of things, i would still say that there is one spot up for grabs, with the 3-5 positions in the lineup. At the moment we have Fulton, Taylor, Styris. But I see them all as number 4's. If we continue batting Taylor at 4 and Styris at 5, then that leaves Fulton at 3. But im not sure he is best suited to that role. If an early wicket falls, he isnt the type of player to score at a great rate in the power plays, and as was shown at the GABBA his slow batting cost us a lot of momentum. Wouldnt a specialist number 3 be better?

So by the looks of things we need an extra batsmen and extra bowler. I was looking at the 30man squad for the World Cup, and the only real possibility for a number 3 would be Mathew Sinclair (Also Sinclair could act as backup keeper). There is also the possibility of Hamish Marshall fitting back into his number 3 slot, but he has been in such a horrid run of form. Ofcourse, Fleming could slip down to 3 with a specialist opener to come in but I think we should at least give somebody a go. Also i was thinking they could give Jesse Ryder a go, and was horrified to see he wasnt even in the 30. Yes, i know he supposedly a hot-head, but not in the 30? Yet they have a whole lot of other guys in the squad that are TOTAL longshots.

So with the Chappel-Hadlee, it is our last chance before the World Cup to sort out a couple more positions. I reckon we should give a couple of guys just one more shot to see if they are up to it.

Vincent
Fleming
Fulton/Sinclair/Marshall
Taylor
Styris
Oram
McCullum
Vettori
Franklin
Bond
Gillespie/Patel/Mason/Tuffey?

I'm surprised there was no mention of CZ there

Swapping Fulton and Taylor might be the go, but Fulton>Sinclair and Marshall. By a fair distance at this stage, for ODI's.

Fulton's been on a lean run lately, and seems unable to get a start and go on with it. In his last 15 games he averages just 23.38, with only one 50 to his name. I personally would rather see Papps brought in for at least a few games, or else Fulton moved to a different position (4-5) with the other guys moving up the order..

Who's this Broom chap? Seems to do well for himself, and young to boot.

Fulton's been making nothing but starts. He needs to go on more often, just like Taylor and Fleming. They all made decent starts in the CB series and only went on with it twice in Taylors case and once in Flemings case. And once in Fultons case.

Just a matter of switching them, IMO.

So basically you hope he never plays? :( :p
Haha

While I think debuting in ODI's is a good breeding ground most of the time (see Ross Taylor and most of the Aussie side) I think Broom has the style to be a test 4 or 5 at the moment in tests. I have to say, I can't say too much about him in the shorter form, but I honestly can't see him getting into that side unless there are injuries or until Fleming retires.

But I definitely think he should make his debut in the next test we play. Replacing Astle with Vincent replacing How

Vincent should not open! :( Vincent is fantastic at #4. So I say no to that. :p

But yeah, New Zealand don't play tests so it doesn't really matter.

TBH, I'd rather Vincent open than someone like be Broom made to open.

But I doubt that'll happen, so hopefully Vincent will be recalled as Astle's replacement to the test team as well, but get bumped to number 4

Papps can open. Better than any of the other options I'm aware of, anyway.
McIntosh has been talked up just a bit on these forums. But Papps deserves a better run than he got recently against South Africa.

Or maybe How was just in really bad form, I don't know.

Vincent is obviously the man to open the innings. No chance of that changing so close to the world cup.

If Vincent gets out first, I'd bring in Taylor at 3. I don't think Fulton and Fleming batting together is a very good combination. Both aren't great at rotating the strike.
