I always have been a big Shaun Pollock fan and defender, but when it comes to Pollock v Flintoff, I'd currently pick Flintoff to get me a wicket ahead of Pollock.

Cupboard's pretty bare on the real pace front. To stretch a point I guess you could include Ntini, but I think nowadays he's more brisk fast-med a la Dizzy.

After that we're probably down to Tino & Fidel and, well sometimes it's kinder just say nothing at all, eh? :D

Surely both are at least as good as Sami, if not Lee. Best for one has exhibited a lot of potential in One Day Internationals, let alone Tests. Edwards the same. Lee isn't a superstar either.

Sorry, that was a bit of a cheap shot!

I think both have real potential it they stay fit. I can see Tino developing into a quick, skiddy bowler in the mode of a Gough. Think he needs to start to develop a bit of reverse swing with the old ball tho, being a shorthouse (relatively speaking) he'll never have the steepling bounce of Harmy or Flintoff to trouble batters once the shine's off.

of course

McGrath
Harmison

Best has at least as much potential as Sami, Sami has been playing for ages and is still basically useless (especially in Tests). Best has a lot of heart and bowls easily as fast as Sami.

Based on the fact that Sami's Pakistani and the other two aren't, I assume. Try looking at things from an objective rather than bigoted viewpoint for once.

Rummy. A top five pacemen list ignoring Glenn McGrath is utterly rubbish IMO.

Irfan Pathan definitely deserve to be in the top five as yet, based on his performances in one year. He has to repeat what he has done so far on a consitent and long term basis. The same might apply for Harmison, but he's in a different league as far as I see it. It's a very touchy subject, if Harmison gets in the top five, then why doesn't Pathan? I'd like to read some opinions on it, but I myself rate Harmison higher.
Harmison has 102 Test Wickets @ 24.73 including 4 five-fors.
Pathan has 21 @ 41.19 including no five-fors.

I think that answers your question.

It's pretty much nothing but mile races in the US, right? Sokyola, Just An Excuse and Elsu would all give it a nudge over 2400 or more.

Anyway, we've gone off topic - naughty me...

:D

Yes voltman thats correct. Its pretty much all mile races and my word they can go quick. The races are usually won with a mile rate of 1.51 or so which is a lot faster that what we see here. The world record for a mile is around 1.47.

Top 5 would be,

\Harmison
Flintoff
Gillespie
McGrath
Pathan

Pollock i believe is down the hill, while Shoaib is pretty much overrated.

Irfan might not have great stats, but he's a proven match winner and deserve to be in the top 5 list.

Lets not jump the gun here on Pathan. He's not even close to being there yet.

I agree with most of the bowlers mentioned in the lists. But a list I would create would have to include Shane Bond. He's ruthless, pacey, he bowls in the right areas, he can move the ball both ways. And apart from being injury prone what more could you ask for in a bowler??

Tino and Edwards the same as sami u must be joking.Sami has got more potential then these put together.
Smacking bias there. Tino has far better domestic stats, similar Test stats, less FC experience, a good ODI record thus far. Smacking bias.

Fidel Edwards may be as erratic as Sami at times (very hard to do!), but anyone who's actually seen him bowl can tell that he's at least as potent as Sami is and probably will be. Fidel has 4 less wickets than Sami in one less Test match and has a better SR, worse economy, but the average is about 3 runs apart. You can't look at FC record, on account of Sami playing more than 2 times as many games and actually having FC experience before being thrust into leading a bowling attack.

Add that to Sami having debuted with Waqar, Saqlain and Mushtaq in the team and Edwards debuting alongside the mighty Taylor, Collymore, Drakes and Banks. All decent bowlers, but none of the quality of the above listed as far as I'm concerned.

Smacking bias.

Absolutely, although he has a lot of talent and should get there if he puts his mind to it and works hard.

I dont think even Sourav Ganguly would rate Zaheer Khan as one of the best bowlers in the world.
id like to see how many people rate zaheer khan as the best bowler in india let alone the world.
