I also see in the Provincial A tournament that Te Ahu Davis has so far taken 11 wickets in 2 matches. The other quick Leighten Burtt has also been bowling well.
Where do you get the stats from? Also who is Leighton Burtt? Whats his deal?

IMO Bruce Martin is extremely unlucky that his career has clashed with Daniel Vettori's particularly as they both play for Northern Districts. Martin is a successful (and most economical in last seasons one day comp.) left arm spinner who also bats well (scored 113* for NZA batting at 10). I hope NZ selectors forget Paul Wiseman and bring in the new, younger Martin.

Preaching to the choir here at CW! Apart from I think Bryce(?), who doesn't really rate Martin that highly.

In reality I think Bracewell has taken a shine to Wiseman as a fellow off-spinner, and there were a few hints at Adelaide that he may be helping him improve. At 34 Wiseman potentially has a few years left by spinners' standards, but once he retires Martin will only have to contend with the likes of Jeetan Patel, Nathan McCullum and Brooke Walker to be NZ's #2 spinner. I heard Walker was bowling as a medium-pacer at the Basin the other day, which isn't exactly the greatest endorsement for where he's at with his leg-spin.

If Martin wants to get in before then I think what he currently lacks is a really good performance at 'A' level, perhaps in the subcontinent somewhere.

haha single me out, i think he's a great domestic player and has all the attributes for a good ODI player(very economical bowler, hard hitting batsman) i just don't think he would be that greater test bowler, i still rate him quite high and definately as the 2nd best spinner in NZ

Was distinctly ordinary with the ball in the National Leauge last season.
Hey the way the South African selectors are, I would say there is a decent chance he will play for South Africa in the ODI's at some point.

IMO, Nathan McCullum bowls a little too flat to be even considered for tests. One string to his bow is his outstanding fielding - one of the best I have seen live.

Personally I would go for Bruce Martin. I myself haven't been that impressed by Brooke Walker except that he has similar bowling action to Shane Warne.

If Jeetan Patel & Brooke Walker are our next best spin options then we're in serious trouble.

Apparently there were 2 decent leg-spinners playing in the recent U19 tournament so here's hoping they progress. I think one of them might be Nathan Astle's cousin Todd.

yeah he's also a fairly accomplished batsman and it would be great if he good develop into an allrounder, on that note i don't rate aaron redmond's leg-spin very high

Neither does Glenn Turner. He has only bowled four overs this year for us. When we first signed him i thought he would play as a bowling all rounder, not as a specilist batsman.

Just commenting on the Natal boyz, 'cos I'm a Dolphin all the way...
I'm a huge Amla fan, and I think he's got what it takes in the long run, but his technique's being exposed pretty badly. He's only got one full first class season behind him, and he's 20, so there's still time. I'm not sure whether they should persist with him in the test side, but then again the 1st class game has basically been on pause for the last couple months anyway. Needs some work on the fundamentals, but the class is there, everyone's seen it for years, even before his 1st class debut he was highly regarded.

Imraan Khan, hmm, if his spin was progressing then maybe, but he's almost given it up in favour of his batting. Which doesn't mean to say he won't make it, he's shown some class with the club in hand. He did look a good prospect with the ball a season or 2 back, I hope they work on his bowling, Natal need all the bowling they can get.

Jon Kent, had some stellar times a few years back and really looked classy in the U19 World Cup he played in, but his performances since haven't really been good enough to think about including him.

On Thami, he's a good enough keeper, probably better than AB in terms of potential, but as a batsman he just does not come anywhere close to being in the vicinity of cutting it. Maybe if our top order was smashing attacks to all corners we could think about carrying a specialist keeper, but certainly not now, when we're struggling to find a balanced lineup.

He seems to have fallen off the earth this season, but I think there's potential in Monde Zondeki and Mfuneko Ngam, despite his brittle bone structure is battling his way back to something resembling form.

Sadly Mfeneko Ngam seems to have lost it this season.
I really liked the look of him in 2000\01 but he's done pretty much nothing this season - and bowled too many no-balls.
I never realised Imraan Khan was even anything more than a part-time bowler.

Best Aussie Prospect

Even though I am not Aussie, we had a professional for my club last year (Leigh C.C.) called Liam Zammit. He was outstanding, loads of wickets and butchered every attack in one of the best leagues in England.

Hildreth will 100% play for England im sure. The guy really has come on well and was awesome for England U19's this year. Ive not seen or heard of Woodman so cant comment. Wood has talent but i couldnt say for sure if he has enough talent or the ability to bring that talent to the fore to make it as an England regular.

On a side note theres apparently a very promising 16yo (i think) at Yorkshire. Not Mark Lawson but someone else...the name escapes me but he was good enough to get a mention on Sky Sports last year. Dunno if anyone here remembers? im sure i mentioned it at the time.

**edit i think it was Adil Rashid but not 100% certain!**
