Top 10 prospects in each country

South Africa -:
Hashim Amla
Abraham de Villiers
Dale Steyn
Andrew Puttick
Imraan Khan
Thandi Tshabalala
Con de Lange
Pierre Joubert
Thami Tsolekile
Jon Kent

Amla and Puttick are both extremely talented players and great prospects for South African cricket, and I truly believe, with more exposure on the international stage, these two can be turned from raw diamonds into highly furnished ones. (They have started with Amla at least; he once scored 82 for South Africa A against Steve Waugh and Brett Lee's touring Australian senior side. Let's hope he can do the same against England's Pommies.)

Why is Ambati Rayudu such a hot prospect? He's only smashed weak Ranji attacks, but has failed against superior bowling teams such as Mumbai, Punjab and Baroda. In the 2003 Challenger Trophy, he opened the innigns twice and threw his bat recklessly at every ball that came, and ended with an average of less than 10. He has shown little application or temperament for a top-6.

because practically anyone who's seen him bat rates him very highly
Yea, the guy hasnt done much against the top bowling lineups but the guy is only 18 or 19.......his limited overs batting is reckless but he is a very good prospect.
I saw the guy bat- he has a very solid technique and a very good temperament.
I would rate him and Venugopal Rao as the two to pick up the reigns once tendy/dravid are gone.

I'd agree with most of them (not really sure about Kent - he's been around a little while and never really looked like that much special) but Tsolekile? You've got to be joking!

Whatever happened to Jon Kent?

Seems like I have all trace of his career. Maybe he is just now a run-of-the-mill South African first class cricketer.

I'd reckon Jean-Paul Duminy would still be hanging around somewhere, too?
Well he's been sadly sub-par this season.
I hope not but he may just be one of those who starts incedibly then drops-off.

Seems so.
TBH I never really thought he looked international-class.

I did the very first time Kent was picked.
It's something that is not beyond the realms of possibility, given their similarity in cricketing stature as well as name.
Certainly Justin Kemp is a player I've always felt was dealt a harsh deal.

He got two games, didn't bat in either of them, eight overs and went for a total of 57 in them. Hard to say, maybe he was dealt unfairly.

Actually his domestic one day form hasn't been bad with the ball for KwaZulu-Natal for this season so far.

Was distinctly ordinary with the ball in the National Leauge last season.

Big man, can hit the ball a long way, bowl high bouncers, but never really looked a hard trier- seemed to be a very easy-going player. Moreover, some people that matter have not forgotten his Caribbean misadventures.
Richard Sherlock from NZ
Maybe Sherlock for Chris Martin?

Kemp has been in good form in the SA domestic one-day competition, and I reckon he will get a call up for the one dayers against England.

Sherlock's currently out of action with back bruising, and had a heel injury before that.

He's only 21 and apparently there's a chance his back problem is growth-related, with him putting on a bit more height in the last few months. I think most people would like to see him string together at least 8-10 FC games working on his craft and his getting his body settled down before he's considered for NZ.

It's great that he's been talked up by the likes of Dennis Lillee, although the rest of this November '03 article proved quite prophetic -

Australian fast bowling great Dennis Lillee rates Sherlock highly. He believes Sherlock, who attended his academy in Chennai, India, for two weeks in late August, is already good enough to play for New Zealand.

National academy director Dayle Hadlee said this week: "Dennis said if someone broke down in the New Zealand team you could play Richard right now. He said he could be a Brett Lee."

Though Hadlee saw the new Central Districts State Championship selection as having the potential to play for his country, he regarded Lillee's comments as premature. Hadlee had Sherlock, 20, a youth international two years ago, at the Lincoln University-based academy this year.

"Richard is tall and reasonably frail at this stage with the ability to bowl quite fast," he said. "I'd say it would be three to five years before Richard's body was able to stand up to the day-to- day demands of first-class cricket.

He's got promise but a lot to learn. He's inclined to bowl two lengths. He needs to get stronger."

Hadlee was delighted the 1.84m, 75kg Sherlock held his own, playing for the academy at Lincoln against established first-class players in the past few weeks. Sherlock was a leading wicket-taker, securing a five-wicket bag against Central, for whom he will make his first-class debut in a championship first round match with Wellington at the Basin Reserve from Monday.

Sherlock developed a "lovely relationship" with Shane Bond at the academy, Hadlee said. Bond was there recovering from a back stress fracture, and Hadlee said he became a mentor for Sherlock.

"Richard said he wanted to bowl as fast if not faster than Shane," Hadlee said. "He did extra stuff at the academy to be with Shane."

Others have compared Sherlock to Australian opening bowler Lee, largely because of Sherlock's similar whippy action. Without the size, Sherlock is very much a rhythm bowler.

Are you guys familiar with Divan van Wyk? I thought he looked like one to watch in the U19 WC.. And Keagan Africa (who I have faced :) )

What is it about South African batsmen who can keep wicket called Van Wyk, who specialise in the one-day game?
There are even two other Jacobs' who are batsmen-wicketkeepers!

TBH I've always thought he was a much better First-Class player than one-day - good batsman in both forms, but I've never thought that much of his one-day bowling.
Why the hell he hasn't played more Test-cricket is totally beyond me - especially given the number of opportunities given Andrew Hall.

Hopefully we'll see more of Sherlock, he's certainly been getting some good wraps from a couple of former greats in Richard Hadlee & Dennis Lillee.

I also see in the Provincial A tournament that Te Ahu Davis has so far taken 11 wickets in 2 matches. The other quick Leighten Burtt has also been bowling well.
