I think that Flintoff has the best catching ability, along with reactions. Closley followed by Collingwood, Gibbs and Symonds.
For me, Ian harveys ability to throw both handed wins the best fielder award.

my first post! anyway, one cool catch i saw was a couple of years ago, i think it was slater at silly mid on and the batsman, i think he miteve been english, smashed it, and as the batsman hit the ball, slater turned to the side, and the camera panned out trying to find the ball. then it turned out the ball actually went into slaters chest and he held it. couldnt help laughing
Welcome to CW, you may be wise to select a different avatar though, as a fellow Homer fan named Chris has a tendancy to have lots of 'doh' moments.

I believe that one terrible innings taught Flintoff a few things.
Though Lara actually caught the ball. Had he not made that dive to take the rebound of his celebration, it would have been given out because he clearly had it under control.

A fair bit of luck being involved there, in that the ball went into an area where he could snag the rebound. Still, reflexes are required, but more luck than reflexes IMO.

I recall a full stretch short-leg catch off a flick shot once. I think it may have been by Jimmy Adams against England some time. Wavell Hinds has also taken a couple of blinders there.

Definitely, on a scale of chanceless innings with Bradmans 254 at one end, i'd put this knock of Freddie's at the other!

lol ironically enough ponting just dropped a sitter off lee at second slip. still rates for me as one of the best though

From what happened earlier today, i'd say Matthew Sinclair is the best fielder. Hamish Marshall is also very good.

that catch ponting took of symonds's bowling in the last vb series was amazing. I think it may have been tendulkar who was dismissed from it as well.
yup, almost seemed if Sachin told him to be prepared for a catch. Has to be sixth sense otherwise, best reflex catch ever seen (almost looked like a fluke)

Sad to see Chris Harris only get one mention after being arguably NZ's best fielder over the past few years. Takes some awesome Ponting-style catches at times and is brilliant at firing it to the stumps, without needing anyone to back him at the stumps too. Otherwise it looks like all the other people worth mentioning have been mentioned dozens of times. :) McMillan isn't too shabby a fielder, too, although not many NZ'ers would like to admit that as he's a pain in the **** when it comes to batting. :p

at the time of the '92 WC in AUS / NZL Rhodes, Harris & Ponting were the best inner circle fieldsmen in the game...............head & shoulders above the rest..........

Marshall is rated highly as a ground fielder (as opposed to being a catcher), and has a similar technique to Jonty (eary anticipation), but is not as good when it comes to throwing down the timber..........

Harvey is a freakish fielder in close - particularly off his own bowling...........

Andre Adams was/is possibly the best all rounder fielder in the NZL team - agility, pace, great reflexes & brilliant arm - or at least such was the story when he made his debut.........

Cairns still has one of THE strongest & accurate arms - see his involvement in the run out in the WC..............

as a Team I'd still rate NZL as being up there with AUS & RSA, although the ENG team would now make it a foursome..............

so far as Macca goes IMO his fielding has been crap / inconsistant for a couple of seasons........

saw him give away too many runs from the WC todate...............

Must have been watching different matches than me, then, because he's been great in the infield in the matches I've seen on Sky this year. :p

That catch almost made me cry. I really wanted to see a Sachin ton live. :(

IMO he's doing ok if the ball is coming at him, but has been making a lot of mistakes if he has to try to intercept it - if you follow my meaning...............

I remember a couple of games in the WC & at Home last season where he's had to make ground to cut the ball off and got his angles all wrong & let the ball get past him to the fence, or has made some sort of half arsed stoop / lunge at the ball as it's gone past him.............

I think he's had problems adjusting to the new requirements where he's been fielding - he used to be at gully b4 Oram, & spent time at square leg(?) b4 Papps.............

Michael Clarke? He seems alright to me....
yeah he is..

he's not a slip feilder though and he has been put there and droped a few but other than that he is very good.

The best piece of fieldng I've ever seen was Symonds. Full blooded cover drive along the ground he dived full stretch and plucked it out of obscurity. The batsman especting an easy run got confused, Symonds, while still on the ground, throws an extremely powerful throw(Given his position) virtually the second he has the ball in his hand and hits the base of middle stump for a run out! I've forgotten who teh series was against, but it was EASILY the best peice of fielding I've seen!

Symond's has to be the best all-round fielder though, a good example was last night's game. He stopped atleast 3 or 4 certain boundaries with diving saves.

Ponting, Collingwood, Symonds and Rhodes are the best in-field fielders ever(IMO, of course). Taylor, Dravid, M Waugh, Inzamam, Hick, Atapattu and Lara are soem of the best slippers ever.

I dont think Harris is as good as he used to be, but he aint as young either.
