Top 10 Batsmen with Debut after 2000

@Thala_0710 there is some serious Root cope on page 1 and 2, you a real one for standing on buisness about his rating.
Yeah both from a statistical and technical pov, I find Root to be a complete batsman, with the only hole in his resume being the AUS one. But imo we need to put a lot more respect on his peak in the pace playing pandemic post COVID where not many others have been making runs, which is what seperates him from the likes of Kohli, Abd etc.
He is arguable with the likes of Dravid, Sanga, Punter etc depending on personal preference for now. But if he has a good series in Aus and 1-2 more quality years, I'll put him ahead of those guys.

It's sometimes hard to remember how htb like Clarke's record was because he played some outrageously good knocks away from home in tough conditions. Had some very lean stretches that bring the numbers down though.
Didn't check of late but I'm sure Clarke averages over 40 in most countries which is normally the pass mark but all just over 40. From memory, the only non minnow countries that he averages less than 40 is WI and England (where he averages very close to 40) and we know he can score runs in England. His last series there with a severely bad back ****ed his average tony

Clarke was close for me, would have him at no 12 (no 11 being Cook). He has an argument with Amla, Smith, Pietersen and Cook imo, similar tier of batsman as them.
Don't understand Clarke over Kohli though.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
So I read this thread this morning and was actually thinking about it off an on and finding a statistical way to get a sense of a top ten test batsman list. Came up with the following:

  • 2000+ runs overseas
  • 2000+ runs at home
  • Has to feature in both list (i.e. 2000+ at home, <2000 away not included)
  • Position on the home run scoring chart would be worth a multiple of 5 i.e. last place is 1 x 5, first place is 39 x 5 points
  • Away runs would be worth double, so 10 points per position
  • Overall position determined by sum of both points
In the end 39 players made the cut. Simon Katich was the only player I noticed who scored 2000+ away runs but <2000 home runs.
Filtering was a bit of a pain because I had to manually extract Pakistan's stats because of the neutral games being home games thing.
Doing everything manually means I probably ****ed it up tbh

Anyway here's the list. Home stats are first, away second.
