A few thoughts:

a) The forums have remained pretty much the same since 2001 and obviously times have changed, but people are failing to offer valid suggestions/solutions. It's **mostly** childish rubbish we seem to be getting rather than a good thought out discussion on the matter. It's a shame really.

b) Some other forums drive me crazy because they create a forum for almost every discussion topic the admins can think of, making it less of a community feel. This is a route I don't want to go down.

c) Why the Ashes, World Cup, Champions Trophy forums? We've always done them for the big tournaments, mainly because it allows regular cricket discussion to not fall away completely when a big tournament is on. If you don't like it, explain why.

The last Ashes we kept it in Cricket Chat and had one Ashes thread for the entire series which got completely out of control. By having a separate forum for this, it allows much more discussion to take place.

d) As personal opinion I don't have a problem with the soccer threads, but I'm always open to suggestions and to what visitors think would work better for the long term future of the site.

I think a sub-forum would be a good idea to go down, it all always other sports to be discussed and at their own free will, I have seen other forums have a seperate forum for each sport (ie wrestling and I don't mean Greek-Roman either, Union, cricket, soccer, boxing etc. a politics and current affairs forum, and a fight club which allowed members to pretty much have a go at each other) but a lot of the time it wasn't used, much depending on the forum and the recent events.

I don't see how this any different to all the music threads we have and some of them are virtually repeating themselves.

I had thought of asking for the idea of a politcs and current affairs type sub forum, but there isn't enough action or discussion to make it worthwhile asking/giving it an idea. But on the flip side it you allow more topics on whatever subject and allow people to have a chance to discuss it.

I'm happy for it to have a all-sports subforum, but it isn't my site so I'm happy with what James does.

James or anybody else's opinions would be appreciated (and I don't want any crap from Murphy or the rest of the TF clan, I would like a proper answer/opinon).

How is my opinion any less worth-while than others? Just because I don't take 90% of matters seriously on an internet forum does that make my thoughts any less valid?

I'm pretty annoyed that people think only staff have a right to express their thoughts on matters, when (without wishing to single anyone out) plenty of the staff members aren't exactly the brightest of people, especially when it comes to topics they should fundamentally be sound in.

Craig, I think it says more about you than anyone else when you making sweeping generalisations like that. Just as an example - you make shampoo holders for boats, why should I take anything you say seriously? I'm not being serious so don't take it as such, but just because, like Murph said, someone doesn't take everything on this forum 100% seriously, that they're incapable of doing so.

I can assure you I don't do that anymore. Besides they were one of the many things I have made, I was using that an example.

Who said that only staff have a right to an opinion? I'm not sure if any of that was aimed at me, and I don't particularly care if it was or wasn't, but me being a staff member is completely detached to me posting as GIMH to be honest, and to take the standard of posts as a measure of intelligence is just....wrong.

Following you around, haha, don't flatter yourself, this is like the only thread I've quoted you in. Visiting the samr thread /= following you around

You really do have the biggest ego on the internet, so so sad and self-important

This fighting wasnt the purpose I had in mind when I created the thread. I merely wanted the soccer loving fans to realise out point of view, that all these threads are clogging up OT and one and only one sub-forum should be made for them, to at least accommodate the people who have no interest in it.

The 40% shown in the poll shows that it is a sizeable group who have this concern and their concern should be heard out. Is anyone strongly against a sub-forum like the predictions league one? I for one am strongly for it. There are others as well here with this concern. Soccer fans should perhaps think of everyone else for a second and if 60% dont hate the idea and 40% are strongly for it, then why the hell not?

Cus 40% isn't a majority, did you fail maths by any chance...

Having a sports forum could also negate the need for various World Cup forums. I found it very annoying having to go to one forum for World Cup football and another forum for the rest of international football and domestic football.
But when the World Cup goes on, that is pretty much all that is happening in Football.

Missed my point completely. Again, if 40% want it strongly and the 60% who dont think that all the threads are a problem but wouldnt care that much if a sub-forum was created, why shouldn't a sub-forum be created in James is ok with it?

12 out of 100 threads is hardly clogging.

Is that what the poll says, it say yes or no. Not if you strongly agree or the threads are a problem and they don't mind a sub-forum. Just because some voted yes doesn't mean they strongly agree, they just might slightly agree or kind of agree. Also just because someone voted no doesn't mean they agree with a sub forum. Your reading too much into a simple poll, that we were asked to vote yes or no.

Probably been said already but there are hardly ever that many football threads on the first page of OT, a bigger problem is all those pointless random crap threads - so basically after moving the sport all there'll be is battle of threads and pointless random crap threads in OT...

The current poll is irrelevant, a totally new one is needed in order to solve the issue of a sub-forum.
