The season that wasnt....a tail of woe

The ratings were excellent for the 6-1. More weight to that theory, I guess.
So that's why you gotta seriously question what's going on with Cricket Australia.

Ashes was suppossed to be their marquee event yet they destroyed any chance of a competitive series taking place by making weird selections one after the other, therefore now I'm seriously starting to question the sanity of people who are running things atm.

You're only doing that now?!

ITSTL piece from that article. Although given the track record of the media ("Marcus North for captain!") in reporting stories like this, I'm always highly sceptical:

LANGER'S EYEING OFF NIELSON'S JOB
CRICKET Australia is facing a difficult call over the immediate future of Test coach Tim Nielsen as rumours emerge of former opener Justin Langer making a pitch for the job.
Under Nielsen's watch, Australia have plummeted from No 1 in the world to No 5, losing two Ashes campaigns, a home series to South Africa and two series in India.
Cricket Australia only recently extended Nielsen's contract for a further two years, but with a record like his, if he was coaching in any of the football codes, he'd be straight out the door.
Cricket Australia spokesman Peter Young insists there is nothing to suggest Nielsen won't see out his contract, but we're hearing otherwise. His failure to get results has created a split amongst the players.
Ricky Ponting is a supporter, but others, including Michael Clarke, want Langer in charge. Langer has let it be known that he is willing to step up from his role as team batting coach.

Don't know what to think ITBT. Other than I can't see it helping much.

I had huge respect for JL as a player the grit and determination he showed for his country was exceptional but in the role of a coach he would be nothing short of a disaster.

He for me hasn't achieved much success in his role as a batting coach, I know he is no magician to fix all the issues with our batting but still you would have expected to see some improvements, so whether its a coincidence or something else but if anything under his tenure the batting standards have nose-dived at an alarming rate.

Have been hearing a lot of bull**** being written and said about Ponting, but what about Nielsen and his support staff, they deserve equal amount of blame as well and if you look at his tenure there is hardly anything to write home about.

Nielsen has been in charge for a while now and I think its time for a change, we need someone to come in with fresh sets of ideas but as I said JL surely doesn't seem like the man for the job.

A while back there was talk about Micky Arthur being a contender for the coach's post and given the current options I really don't think it would be a bad move to hire him.

JL as coach would be an utter disaster.

Despite his tendency to talk absolute fluff and be a brown nose, he's clearly failed as batting coach. Like I've mentioned before, if anything, under Langer, the techniques of a couple of our batsmen have regressed.

Bit harsh on Langer?? How long has he been in the job? I'm not sure how much blame should be laid at the batting coach, regardless of how much the batting is failing. Its just too easy for people to blame the coach. Im not sold on the idea of JL being any sort of coach yet, but its silly to just tear him a new ass so soon into his job.

The idea that a coach is entirely responsible for international class batsmen regressing is lolworthy.

He's had the job two years now, hasn't he?

I wouldn't say he's caused the regression at all, but one wonders what he's doing given that his job is to identify and rectify at first opportunity any glitches a batsmen may develop. Especially big ones.

Yes because I said he was entirely responsible 8-) I dare say he hasn't caused it, but he's done **** all to solve it. Good batsmen =/ good coach

The point remains though. Australia's batting has been woeful under his tuition and I don't really like the attitude that he brings forward. Too much washy crap and not enough hard facts
