Zingiber vs Western Australia

Scorecard
Ball By Ball

A worrying lack of form from the top seamers and big hauls from Inness and Magoffin contributed to a reasonably easy victory for the tourists, who made it two from two on their first class leg of the tour. After a good start propelled by a dashing 87 from Heads, WA seamers Inness, Dorey and Magoffin took the heart out of the middle order, and Zingiber crashed from 126 for two to 191 all out. Clouds aided Zingiber to a fine reply, though Watt and Kennett squandered their early start, and Clapham had to save them as two good balls were edged. However, the tourists had considerable sting in the tail. Ronchi, Hogg and Bandy all made fifties on the second day as they totalled 435.

In response, Gray and Kearsley put the team on the right track. Early wickets from Magoffin had them in trouble, but 87 from Gray - the second 87 from an opener in the match - but when Thompson dragged Magoffin to Bandy, at 172 for five, things looked to be quite over. Spunk from Reddlapalli and Clapham, who showed sudden ability with the bat against worn-out seamers.

Justin Langer showed he's been in a tricky spot before, though, and chasing 199 he led from the front with a glorious 115. Zingiber took three wickets, but two were run outs; one would compliment them for good fielding, were it not for a fair amount of missed catches.

Zingiber 191 all out (46.4)
JJD Heads 87; MHW Inness 6-44, SJ Magoffin 2-29

Western Australia 435 all out (110.2)
L Ronchi 104, GB Hogg 96, JL Langer 79, DC Bandy 60*; DM Kennett 4-59, KR Clapham 3-86

Zingiber 442 all out (112.2)
DA Kearsley 102, JR Gray 87, M Reddlapalli 69, SM Ervine 55, KR Clapham 52; SJ Magoffin 7-86

Western Australia 200 for three (46.3)
JL Langer 115

Note: Heads will not be selected for any matches in the first quarter unless he chooses to end his exile from the forums.

Happy with a ton in the second dig there. Some promising efforts by some of the lads, can only hope that Heads returns to the forums.

Hak, neither link works for me..... File Missing...

Hmmm, a little disappointed. Some good individual performances (particularly with the bat in the 2nd dig), but still a fairly lacklustre performance. Can't really comment on the bowling until I see the scorecard, but at a glance, it looks like really only Kennett & myself to a certain degree troubled them with the ball.

Good to see you ton up Kears, and Gray providing us with another strong innings at the top of the order. Was also nice to see Heads get some runs, hope he ends his exile soon...

Carmine vs Zingiber

Scorecard
Ball By Ball

A flattish Oval track led to a host of high scores, particularly from the tailenders, as Zingiber cruised home with a six-wicket win after an excellent performance from captain Kingsley Clapham.

Carmine won the toss and batted, and got off to a good start after Sharma dashed six fours in a swift 35. Dobson, Dauth and Dwyer all chipped in with brief partnership with Mørk, who stood tall through the entire first day, playing an essentially chanceless innings until reaching 149 just before the close of play. 353 for eight overnight turned to a total of 482, as Amir and Raghav put on healthy partnership with Mørk, who was eventually trapped lbw by a tiring Clapham after a massive 217. Kennett got the best figures, getting Nayak, Gillies and Heal, while Ritchie got a couple cheap wickets as fifth change.

In response, Zingiber were equally dominant. Gray carried on his massive form from the previous game, well supported by the class of Kearsley, and both made hundreds in a fantastic 250-run stand. Endless deliveries were dispatched away, the senior Red captain scratched his head in frustration, while neither Raghav, Amir, nor Nayak could get the final breakthrough.

Wickets tumbled rather rapidly in the afternoon session on the third day, Nayak snatching two including the double centurion Gray, who fell three short of Mørk's mark. With Ervine lbw to Nayak just after tea, it looked as though the Zingiber team would only get a slim lead, but Clapham wanted it differently. An excellent, composed knock of 90 minutes, after being given a life on 10, gathered 77 runs for his team, as well as helping Thompson to collect 67. When Thompson fell just short of his century, Clapham opted for an overnight declaration, fearing that two days might not be good enough for a result.

It was. Though Dauth and Dwyer bashed 146 after Clapham had run through the top order, the team fell over quickly after that, not keeping their heads as quick runs were required to set a target. Amir and Raghav showed that batting was not impossible, adding 33 for the tenth wicket, before Clapham could celebrate his sixth of the innings and ninth for the match to curtail the target at 220.

Amir got early wickets despite getting hoiked by Heads for two sixes, and when Zingiber were 69 for four, things looked tricky. However, Thompson pulled out one of those blazing innings that saved Red on so many occasions last year, battering 87 with adequate support from Kearsley. Despite a late breakthrough, including Raghav's first wicket, Zingiber batsmen Reddlapalli and Ervine kept their heads and got across the line.

Carmine 482 all out (130.4)
H Mørk 217, MU Amir 50; DM Kennett 3/82

Zingiber 619 for eight declared (138.5)
JR Gray 214, DA Kearsley 119, CP Thompson 98, KR Clapham 77*; GN Nayak 4/137

RJ Dauth 121, CR Dwyer 66; KR Clapham 6/83

Zingiber 220 for six (42.2)
CP Thompson 87, DA Kearsley 56; MU Amir 3/54

:D No complaints from this corner (apart from the fact that I fell 1 wicket short of a 10-fer..)

Some fantastic performances from Mork, Gray, Dauth, Kears & Thompson with the bat, Thommo was rather unlucky not to get a ton it seems. Looks to me like the pitch was a little bit more than flattish :p

Another solid effort by all in that game. Agree with Clapos comments, pitch was probably too flat. But runs are runs and time out in the middle is invaluable at this time of the year.

Haha, huge scores there. Batting-wise, Mork, Amir, Jamee, Kears, Thompson, Clapo and Sharma did really well, whilst Kennett, Clapo and Amir were the pick of the bowlers. The pitch a bit flat IMO... ;)
