The Kane Williamson Average Watch thread

Will Kane average 50 in both ODIs and Tests at some point before Feb 2017?

Whatever it takes!!!
It's a good point. To use another sport's example, Padraig Harrington won 3 majors in a couple of years - Tiger-esque achievement - then completely remodelled his swing in pursuit of perfection. Then completely crapped out, was never near the same again (and is only now getting back to near winning ways). Maybe that is something that is/will afflict Kane, given he knows so much about the craft of batting. Maybe he does worry about where his left elbow is over just hitting the ball.

Yep. Precisely my point. The funny thing is, it is not so great if you are someone who will never care about your technique either. That is why I said Sachin was the best example. He knows enough to not get unduly worried about technique as long as he was able to get results, but the moment he figures out that he has a weakness which will hinder him over a period of time with respect to scoring runs, either against a particular bowler or a particular line or length or style of bowling, he was good enough to immediately go back to the drawing board and work out whatever technical chinks he had developed over that time period. In a lot of ways, he is such a good guy to look upto as a role model as a batsman and cricketer. So much of what he does can be put into use by most other players, unlike say a Richards or a Lara who were so much more unique.

He averages 50+ in all three formats. Absolutely crazy.

I never thought I'd see a batsman eclipse Sachin's 98, he's actually gone and done it. 4 centuries in the IPL as well. I didn't go and watch at the stadium because I don't want to spend money on IPL as a matter of principle. Now I'm thinking I missed watching a great batsman dominating at his absolute peak.

Kohli's been on another level this year & is light-years ahead of all-comers if considering all 3 forms.

Still probably a close second to Root in Tests right now, but catching quickly.

Smith's been pretty fantastic as well. Though I don't remember him doing much in the T20 WC, so Kohli beats him out there.

IPL definitely not the best place to enjoy his batting.. Most of the bowling attacks are kinda shite and Bangalore is a batting paradise. Plus the music they play is obnoxiously loud..

We saw him make back to back hundreds against Australia in 50 odd balls in ODIs. The IPL cannot compete with that.

Yeah. I get that.

Still, watching him and AB bat together even against a club attack..

Will definitely go watch the India-Australia match in March.

Yeah he is. Across all formats there is no contest at all........he is way ahead of the pack.

Edit:

And the bloke is getting scary good in the test format now.

Yet just a month ago Indian fans on here were saying Rahane and Pujara were better than him in tests. Silly stuff.
