Like scoring an unbeaten hundred to save a Test with a couple of guys bowling 150km with a 30km wind behind them, while the rest of his side falls over...against the same side you just named?would like to see him perform under tough conditions before rating him.. NZ's last tour to SA was a tragedy to say the least!
He is a very bright prospect and has shown remarkable consistency over past few years. The only reservation I have is his big performances have come against SL and WI who were weak bowling units at the time. If he puts up more big performances against SA, Aus or Eng I would have no issue putting him in the same bracket as guy like steve smith.Like scoring an unbeaten hundred to save a Test with a couple of guys bowling 150km with a 30km wind behind them, while the rest of his side falls over...against the same side you just named?
You should really rate him now. He's good. Not certain how his captaincy is going to go, however.
I find it's usually best to actually watch the game, or at the very least look at the scorecard and get an actual read of how the game went rather than just look at a players highest scores list. I mean would you write off Steve Smith scoring 240* in a third innings with his team 130 runs behind after the first innings and 5 down for bugger all in the second dig? I think not.The only reservation I have is his big performances have come against SL and WI who were weak bowling units at the time. Have seen them all play: Smith, Root, Williamson, Rahane.. These are the new gen. players who have impressed me the most as a cricket fan..Howsie;3520564[B said:]I find it's usually best to actually watch the game[/B]
It is starting to look possible now. A big daddy 100 in perth would be nice.47.19 & 48.02 - choo choo!
Hussey averaged 80+ in both tests and ODIs in mid 2007.after 20 tests and 50ODIs.It is starting to look possible now. A big daddy 100 in perth would be nice.
Apart from AB DeVilliers and Hashim Amla who else has averaged over 50 in both at the same time? I am pretty sure that Trott did before his horror last 18 months in test cricket. Was young Viv over the 50 mark in both at some stage? Virat K might in the future.
Warner will no doubt move up.Will be interesting to see how far he moves up the rankings. I'm presuming Smith will stay ahead of him after his 2nd innings hundred, but you'd assume Kane would go ahead of Amla and maybe Root too.
Are you sure about that?Hussey averaged 80+ in both tests and ODIs in mid 2007.after 20 tests and 50ODIs.
Start of 2007 rather than middle but apart form that he's rightAre you sure about that?
Trying to work out how AB is short for Joe Root and struggling tbhIf AB wasn't a thing I'd call him the best in the world right now. Bloody AB.
Root is behind Williamson, Smith, Mathews, Warner and AB at the moment IMO. Easily the best of all of them at age 24 though.Trying to work out how AB is short for Joe Root and struggling tbh
