The Inaugural World Test Championship

If two teams are tied on points, the team that won more series shall be ranked higher. If teams are still equal, then the team with the higher runs per wicket ratio shall be ranked higher. The runs per wicket ratio is calculated as runs scored per wicket lost, divided by, runs conceded per wicket taken.
IDK how they will adapt this now that they're using PCT instead of Points, but India is currently ahead on that metric. Is it even possible their PCT will end up tied with NZ in any of the possible Eng India series outcomes?

What happens if the final is drawn (or tied)? Presumably not decided on boundaries. I don't like to see things decided on previous matches or league standings as this leaves one team knowing that a draw is good enough before they start. That's not to say that any non-English people will want to be in England this June. Maybe just move the final to New Zealand around Christmas.

Ignoring the points lost for a slow over rate at Melbourne, it would have been kinda better to have taken a draw out of Brisbane to leave us much in a much better position. So much for the 'a draw is as good as a loss' mentality.

Even if England manage to defeat India in the fourth and final Test, Australia might not qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) final.
If England wins the last Test against India, then Australia were to qualify for the WTC final. But, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is now looking to bring forward Cricket South Africa's (CSA) formal complaint against Cricket Australia (CA) should the latter qualify for the WTC final, reported Sydney Morning Herald.
As per a report in Sydney Morning Herald, if the ICC decides to deduct points from Australia then the side would be eliminated from the WTC even if England was to win the final Test against India. Cricket Australia has been given the time until the end of this week to meet the deadline set by the ICC to inform whether the matter can be resolved through good faith negotiations.

If that is not the case, then the matter would be transferred from the dispute committee of the ICC and it would be given to an independent panel and they would be deciding whether Cricket Australia was within its right to postpone the series in South Africa.

The independent panel may also decide to award full 120 points for the postponed three Tests to South Africa and if this happens, it would ensure that Australia finishes below India even if Virat Kohli's team is beaten by England in the fourth and final Test.

what a **** show. First of all no way do Aus deserve to be in the running, they've played 1 away series. However it would be beyond ****ed to penalise a team for taking safety precautions during a pandemic.

That's ridiculous. **** off Cricket SA. They want one of their own health experts to rule on whether the dangers of COVID were high enough to require cancellation? Sounds like a set-up to me.

No chance Australia will be penalised.

Premature. SA making Australia slightly annoyed with this. They should have forgone a certain minor annoyance in favour of holding back, on the slim chance Australia made it, before getting the points docked. That would then make us lose our ****, completely.

Whatever it takes!!!
They will have a hard time explaining how they led on CSA no matter who the panel are, short of Mark Waugh being the sole judge.

Just award the whole thing to Zimbabwe IMO. After triumphing against Afghanistan there's no-one left to beat, surely.

Making over-rate penalties part of the points even worse IMO, because it's so arbitrary. It's not like every team's over rates over the course of years is being analysed and penalisations are based on that. If you want to make something part of a point-scoring system for a tournament it needs to be consistent across the whole tournament.

Ha get ****ed SA. Wasn't there a series with England cancelled because of covid? They accepted that so they can accept the cancellation of the tests too. CA should get in a room and negotiate wearing SBW masks.

CA did **** them over with the timing tbf. Things were getting better and all the demands were being met when they decided to pull the plug.

It should’ve happened earlier.
