The Inaugural Agarkar Award

Gotchya

State Vice-Captain
He used to have much more pace than he actually has now. He used to be in low 140's but it has decreased to low 130's in last couple of years.
He isn't getting old is he ?

But agarkar did bowl inswingers well. Better then any Indian bowler I have seen do.

No offence but the way some ppl are talking, you'd think he died. I mean it's like 'he was a good player and then....tragedy' :D

I thought Agarkar was like 24 or something.
So if he's already decreased his pace due to age rather than changing technique then there's something wrong!.

Interestingly, I was looking at an Ashes tour preview that came in the Times - CMJ's article on the way to attack the Ashes with a view to winning them. He said that we had to win the toss and bowl first in the First Test!
He's got a double-barrelled surname though, he's allowed not to think coherently...

There is one lil probelm though with this award.....Agarkar could be in the running as well

Ajit Agarkar will bowl quite well in New Zealand, those seamy, green wickets will suit his 'skiddy-sharp' bowling, and believe me he will surprise some New Zealand batsman, especially batsman who lack proper, orthadox technique.

Yet if I remember correctly most of the NZ players have good, proper, orthadox techniques. Except Astle who's unorthodox but his technique is in no way a hinderence.

India will do well to win here because of the total change in conditions to which they are used to.

Agarkar will probably increase rather than decrease his bowling average...again...but in the true CricketWeb Spirit I wish him all the best :D:lol:

Astle one of the unorthodox!?, he has one of the best batting techniques in NZ.
Craig McMillan & Chris Cairns are unorthodox..but I don't know why you think Astle does.

Normal batsmen don't play lofted drives during most of their innings and get 222 off 153 balls...yeah ok Cairns and McMillan are un-orthodox but other than that most of the batsmen are orthodox like Richardson and Bell and Fleming and Sinclair. Also they all have pretty good techniques, I was just replying to that guy who said they all sucked basically :P Although weather India have an attack even close to exposing flaws in even the worst techniques is another question...

fair enough Rik. I think 5 years back several of our batsmen had poor techniques but these days...Sinclair, Richardson, McMillan all average in the high 40's aswell as Astle, Fleming & Vincent who average mid to high 30's.

For a batsman to have a poor technique i'd have to say that they'd be averaging between 20-30 in test cricket.

Sinclair good technique? This is someone who has said themselves that "footwork isn't important"!

That's fine for spanking Yorkshire League bowlers on one of the best batting wickets in England but not at test level.

Another Heartbreaker....
After Henry Olonga, poor Agarkar has the highest economy rate in the world in ODI's.

Errrm he has like 2-3 Test 200's...he must have good footwork! One of them I remember was against Pakistan too, remember they have one of the finest pace attacks...

Agarkar has an Econ. around 5.7 . I can't believe its the second. I have seen some who have more than 6. Did you take 50 wkt as the benchmark?

You don't necessarily have to have good footwork to get runs. Look at Sherwin Campbell...no footwork and yet he has a top score of a double century and got a couple more hundreds too.
