Haha, what a joke. I throw my full weight behind Smith. He's the bloke to guide us through difficult times and he's proven he can do the job with CW Football.

Smith is a joke himself. I reckon a rookie needs to get an opportunity at the top job.

On a lighter note Smithy is good for nothing, even kicked his ass in snooker :p

Good luck guys, I hope that you can pull through this, and get a team like the one you used to have. It's never good to see a Dev League team like this. It probably won't be easy for the guys in charge, but I'm sure that you can get it working.

Thanks for the season..

I think the whole moving teams thing should be examined. There should be some sort of drafting system like in the AFL. Players shouldn't be allowed to walk out on clubs. It is unfair to everyone.
This is what I don't get... How can people just suddenly decide that they are leaving and join whatever club they want. The way it is every member of the CW XI could decide they are all going to join one club and then just dominate.

Shouldn't players be contracted or something?

Players like Nathan Haurtiz and Beau Casson did it last season by leaving their respective Pura Cup sides and coming to NSW. It's not as un-common as it seems.

Sheesh, talk about double standards.

Smith and Gelman are talking a lot of sense. I hope people take notice.

yeah Gelman made a good point about people just leaving... needs to be looked into.

but it was fair because the season has ended and contracts were over

Actually, Smith, if I'm not mistaken, Casson and Hauritz didn't have their contracts renewed and were therefore free agents.

But I do think Gelman has a point - surely players can't just come and go as they please? I think it should be as it is during the season, although if circumstances call for it, THEN the CWBCC can release a player.

And in CWLand, contracts only last for a season, so all players become free agents.

Unless we set up a full contract system, this will be very unlikely. Having said that, I'm not against setting up a contract system if it's designed well enough.

No, there's no mechanism in CWLand to the effect of a 'contract'... we just simply haven't evolved to that point yet.

Beau Casson just thought that his career would develop better with a move to NSW. Same with Hauritz I believe.

AFAIK Casson was approached by NSW to come over from WA, whereas Hauritz made the move of his own accord and was not offered a contract.

we cant really get contracts longer than a season because there is no money involved. unless there is some other way

As far as I'm concerned, the substitute for contracts is "If you want to keep your players, make them want to stay / don't give them reasons to leave."
