I believe I read from a number of respected English posters (Peterhrt and Grecian), that Russell's keeping was sufficiently overrated. He was great against pace, but not so much against spin; and it even cost England a match, resulting him being dropped.
Tbh, I didn't really see him keep much against spin. So fair enough. Then again, I haven't seen most of these keepers properly enough. Of the ones I have seen a lot, I rate Healy no 1 and P. Jayawardene no 2

Am I the only one who rated Rashid Latif? He was great if you just ignore the lack of ability to hold the bat and cheating.
The last of the ***y, sideways-leaping keepers perhaps (Gilly too I think)? Don't see too many keepers having to do that these days. Maybe their footwork's improved that much or they simply can't be arsed enough.

I don't think Dujon should be on the list. He was good at batting and very athletic at jumping around to the quicks, but Ian Smith was better than him in the same era for glovework.

Since 1990 Healy, Prasanna Jayawardene, Russell, and Parore have probably been the best.

Wicket-keepers who at one time have been labelled their country's best-ever, ignoring batting:

England: Lilley, Evans, Knott, Bob Taylor. For many years Evans was considered the greatest English Test keeper but was not as consistent in county cricket. In discussions about the finest never to play Tests, the name of David Hunter of Yorkshire often came up. He was a contemporary of Lilley. As @Northerner says, Taylor may well have been the best from England overall.

Australia: Blackham, Oldfield, Tallon, Healy. For nearly half a century Blackham was the gold standard. From those with no Tests, Darren Berry perhaps the most highly rated.

South Africa: Cameron, Gamsy, Jennings (no Tests). Dennis Gamsy was apparently a superior keeper to Waite and Lindsay but couldn't bat as well.

West Indies: Cyril Christiani, Hendriks.

New Zealand: Ken James. The first to stand back to medium-pacers. Not sure about Ian Smith. NZ posters will know more.

India: Kirmani.

Pakistan: Wasim Bari, Rashid Latif.

Sri Lanka: Ben Navaratne, HIK Fernando, Mahes Goonatilleke, Prasanna Jayawardene. Claims were made on behalf of all four to be the leading wicket-keeper in Asia.

Bangladesh: Khaled Mashud.

He is the best I have seen very comfortably. Extremely safe and agile, almost always in position and still enough athletic to grab most half chances. Sometimes seems to be a little underrated.
The best post 2000 for me is PJ. Saha is probably 2nd though I'd like to see more of Foakes

Have seen very little of PJ, definitely not enough to rate properly. So really can't say if he was any better. Foakes is also second for me among the ones seen, Watling also deserves a shout.

Looks like sub continet didn't have any GOAT wicket keepers.

Prasanna Jayawardene
Wasim Bari
Rashid Latif
Farokh Engineer
Mahesh Goonetillake
Wriddiman Saha
Kumar Sangakkara
MS Dhoni

Tillekaratne and Parore played in similar era. And Hashan looked umpteen times better than Parore. Now this was a player who gave up gloves to improve batting.

Since 1990, PJ, Healy, Latif and Russell are the best I have seen.

I’ve always had a soft spot for Oldfield, like he always had a soft spot for Larwood.

I’ll stick with him for as long as he holds the stumping record.

Nah, Parore was superb (especially after Rixon became NZ coach).

Saw Dujon drop an absolute sitter yesterday when watching some old tape so it's not him.
Never really saw Knott play much but his name has echoed forever as one of the great glovesman.
Dujon didn't have many of those, but even he has said that David Murray was considerably a better glove man than he was.

I am pretty sure that at worst Bob Taylor was a slightly better keeper than Knott. Tallon, Oldfield and Ray Jennings (though uncapped) also deserves mentions. Also pretty sure Dujon wasn't World Class to spinners, would rate Dhoni ahead as a keeper.
Dhoni over Dujon?

Really?

Really subjective, and hard to rate the knows we haven't seen, and from that lot no doubt Healy was the best I've seen. PJ or Russell would probably come in next.
