As far as Shoaib's average again India and Australia is concerned, well it's below his overall avg and strike rate is poor as well.
Akhter's spell of 5-15 against Aus in which he took 5 top order wkts in 15 ball was rated best in the history of test series by Steve Waugh. His ave is NOt that impressive becasue Akhter had a poor tour of Aus when he was relatively new to cricket. With time his average is probably going to get better.

That's very much open to debate.

It's actually interesting that we have many discussions about the best batsman in the world, but very few about the bowlers.

If we are talking among pacers then its either going to be MCgath or Akhter.

Batsmen have to perform really well over a period of time before they get the tag of best batsman in the world. It has to be same for bowlers as well. So, although Shoaib's bowled brilliantly in the last 2 series, we cant call him the best bowler in the world so soon.

(OR do you think maybe its different for bowlers...they just need to prove their quality...dont have to see them perform for as long a period of time as batsmen.)

bond is a tremendous bowler in one day cricket(when he is not injured).....pollock is a class act

if i were to pik the 5 bowlers comprising a world class pace attack(from the current crop) they would be:in random order

shoaib akhtar
macrath
pollock
lee
bond(if fit.....otherwise i would throw gillespie in there ....who should be given more credit....by far the most under rated cricketer in the world)
