The ATG World XI's game

Jager

International Debutant
Going to finish this round a little earlier seeing as we've had 12 votes not including mine, so all the usuals have contributed I think. I went for Evans over Prior because he was the superior gloveman and has his career completed - who knows about Prior's ranking in the long-term. I had to leave Abbas out though, which wasn't what I wanted, but with Boon at 3, Hazare fits in and 4 or 5 better and definitely deserves a spot by now.

Gary Kirsten

Geez, a toss up between him and Langer who were pretty similar players, although Langer became slightly more aggressive later in his career. Nuggety opener up for most challenges.

Roy Fredericks

Take the challenge up to the best bowlers, that's what I want especially in combination with Kirsten.

Mark Waugh

Think that he suits the team well. He can hold his own as a bat, and provide with the ball. I'm not sure that we can make room for a Mankad or an Armstrong to slide in at 6, unless we pack the side with all-rounders.

Gary Kirsten and Cyril Washbrook.
Stanley Jackson

I changed from Azharrudin to Jackson, as this team will be stronger having someone who can bowl.

*Two votes for Armstrong were not counted and they would not have changed the victor regardless.

1. Select your three fast bowlers
2. Select a spinner

Suggested pace bowlers
Shoaib Akhtar, Mohammad Asif, Terry Alderman, James Anderson, Bill Bowes, Stuart Broad, Andy Caddick, Jack Cowie, Wayne Daniel, Fanie de Villiers, Jason Gillespie, Darren Gough, Charlie Griffith, Ken Higgs, Merv Hughes, Bill Johnston, Zaheer Khan, Craig McDermott, Garth McKenzie, Sarfraz Nawaz, Makhaya Ntini, Vernon Philander, Bruce Reid, Fred Spofforth, Javagal Srinath, Heath Streak, Ernie Toshack, Chaminda Vaas

Suggested Spinners
Saeed Ajmal, Shakib Al Hasan, Bishan Bedi, Charlie Blythe, Johnny Briggs, Bhajwath Chandrasekhar, Subhash Gupte, Tony Lock, Stuart MacGill, Vinoo Mankad, Saqlain Mushtaq, Bobby Peel, Erapalli Prasanna, Abdul Qadir, Iqbal Qasim, Sonny Ramadhin, Harbajhan Singh, Graeme Swann, Hugh Trumble, Alf Valentine, Daniel Vettori

Shakib could be a superb addition to the batting lineup if he was to come in at eight. Trumble also a worthy batsman and spinner. This is the third-last team we're planning on making, so it will be interesting to see who makes the cut. Mohammad Asif was also added to the shortlist and we're going to pretend he's not going to spot-fix/do steroids/be jailed

Gillespie deserves a spot, he was a key contributor to one of the best teams in the history of cricket.

and Dean Jones has got to get a gig in one of the next teams, surely. He was tough as all hell.
