The ATG World XI's game

International Coach
If Bruce Mirchell doesn't make this side then all voters deserve to be hung up by their *****
Mitchell and Simpson are similar players and Simpson won out barely with longevity.

I find that a lot of early british spinners are over rated due to average, but most of them gained that average due to playing on wet, under prepared, uncovered pitches and some were rather ineffective in un-helpful conditions. Hence why Tayfield, Benaud and Gibbs are generally under rated.

I knew today's voting would be very tight.

Graham Gooch with his 5 votes is the first opener chosen, the other spot is between Merchant and Morris who were level on 4. I have decided to go for Arthur Morris. I believe he had a better Test career compared to Merchant and I like the fact that he is left handed.

I think some might point to Barry Richards early inclusion having playing even less Tests, but I didn't pick him that early. It was also note-worthy to see Morris make the Cricinfo XI while Merchant was behind Sehwag in making the Indian XI. I hope Merchant makes it soon, but in a one on one decision against Morris I couldn't pick him.

The spinning spot goes to Richie Benaud. Marvellous effort that.

1) Select a batsman for the number 5 position
2) Select a third seamer or second spinner

Today's picks should be focusing on the number 5 and 11 spots available in the team above. Obviously the bowler doesn't have to bat at 11. Tomorrow's two spots will be the keeper and whoever fits into lineup best, so keep that in mind.
