Dunno how he could be seen as overrated when every second person on this forum is all like "herp derp, he only played in 7 Tests.."

As marc would say, eyes not spreadsheets.
He might have under or overperformed in tests. We dont really know. But he does get downgraded due to lack of proof at the highest level. Which is fair enough in one sense. But downgrading a player for reasons unrelated to his ability or perfomances is definitely not overrating him.

Exactly. That's what I mean when I say he gets criminally underrated because the circumstances which destroyed his intl career.

Yeah WI batting is very good in its depth, well shown, but I don't think there are any changes you could make to that first XI. Surely Garner over Adcock though?

Garner is a really good shout & wouldn't really dispute him over Adcock. Shaun & Peter Pollock, along with Wes Hall & Learie Constantine also spring to mind, wouldn't look terribly out of place in that side either.

That's not my experience of the forum. Unless he genuinely was the greatest all rounder in history by a distance then I've seen plenty of people on here who probably overrate him.

Well, I was blowing it out of proportion of course. But I'd say at least one in five people who post here disregard him for that exact reason.

Sobers
Miller
Imran
Kallis
Botham
Kapil
Hadlee

Hadlee’s batting was a bit borderline so that’s why I have him so low. I’d have Procter probably above Miller at best, below Kallis at worst for a possible career range for me personally. I don’t think he’d have been better than Sobers overall, though of course I’d love to have been proven wrong.

Fair ranking. Where do the current best allrounders Stokes/Shakib/Jadeja/Holder find a place in the list of overall allrounders? Top 20?

I'd say third greatest, behind Miller and Imran. That is, actual all-roundiness rather than a Sobers or a Grace. Weird that the greatest all-rounder of all-time is hard to justify inclusion in their country's XI. Thinking about it, this may work:

Trumper
Simpson
Bradman
Smith - 6
Ponting
Border* - 5
Gilchrist +
Miller - 2
Lindwall - 1
Warne - 4
McGrath - 3

Unusual but could work. Rather than getting Miller to stake his claim as an ATG batsman I've got him as an ATG bowler who can bat better than Imran.

Australia A:

Hayden
Morris
Harvey
G Chappell
S Waugh - 6
Healy +
Davidson - 1
Grimmett - 4
O'Reilly - 5
Lillee - 2
Spofforth - 3

Leaves a bloated bowling lineup in the 'A' XI however. Maybe McCabe's an option.

I think Shakib should be in the top 10 when all’s said and done for the burden for Bangerz he’s carried for so long and his great individual feats. Stokes will definitely be up there, not as certain about Jadeja and Holder with their shorter careers so far.
