The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

Reckon from the last 20 years Australia has produced 3 full teams of very high quality.

4th team starts dropping off when you have to decide on Emery, Manou, Paine or Wade as keeper and a host of spinners who are not named Warne, MacGill, Miller. Tim May might actually be the next best, Lyon's start has moved into the mix too.

How good would this team be - my spidey sense is tingling just looking at it

1. Jack Hobbs
2. Herbert Sutcliffe
3. Barry Richards
4. Don Bradman
5. Keith Miller*
6. Archie Jackson/Garfield Sobers (mood dependant)
7. Mike Procter
8. Alan Davidson
9. Don Tallon †
10. Shane Warnie
11. Waqar Younis/Malcolm Marshall/Bill O'Reilly (mood dependant)
Like this. The compensation for a specialist glovemen is dealt with well by a strong 10 and 11 and two genuine bowling all rounders. More interesting than the usual sides IMO.

"c Marsh b Lillee" is certainly one of the most fascinating partnerships, well thought out.
AWTA. Would be tempted to chuck in Murali and Mehala as well (the most common bowler and outfielder combination in test history)

Who would others pick as The Dead's wicketkeeper, and the Living's opening combination?

Also, would you find a way to get Murali in the team?

Chanderpaul instead of Waugh, perhaps?
Chanderpaul is already in there. :p

If Malinga is going to be replaced I think it should be by a batsman personally, or a predominately batting player anyway. Dhoni at 6 and Procter at 7 is blekhh.

"Dead" wicketkeeper would be Godfrey Evans for me.

"Living" openers would be Sunny Gavaskar and Geoff Boycott.

Just pondering something. Did Bradman knew in his time what reverse swing was and what a sub continent pitch looks like?

Other thing is all those really quick bowlers how effective would they be today considering the 2 bouncer rule and all the body protection available?

I can only assume you're off your rocker :p - where's Barry Richards!?
Not off my rocker just yet, only early on Friday arvo!

I just like to throw something in there from time to time.

FTR, Boycott had a better FC average than B. Richards (not that it matters much!)

And B. Richards was excellent, no doubt. But his 4 tests aren't enough to judge him on.

Worth considering how consistent Boycott was against all countries in all conditions imo...
