The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

Great team there Monk but you forgot Miller's long time friend in Larwood. Will have to dig up the book I read it in but from what I they were great mates

He didn't forget him; Sam Loxton was just correctly adjudged the better bowler.

The Sean

Cricketer Of The Year
Miller and Mates XI

- B. Woodfull (Miller's school headmaster and a man he greatly admired)
- S. Watson (Read a book about Miller once to try and become cooler and less of a knob)
- I. Chappell (Miller was his childhood hero, and they drank together as adults)
- N. Harvey (Often recollected in Chappelli and Miller drinking session stories)
- L. Hassett (Greatly admired by Miller as a man and leader)
- D. Compton (England's version of Miller and close friend of Miller's)
- K. Miller (captain)
- R. Benaud (Delivered the eulogy at Miller's funeral)
- S. Loxton (Aus teammate and great mate of Miller and Harvey)
- R. Lindwall (partner in crime)
- B. O'Reilly (Happy to take Jager's word for it)

Harvey or Chappelli might have to keep. Ian Johnson probably not in the touring party.

Ha ha, great side that - and a hell of a testament to Tendulkar's career.

And he's been world class more or less that whole time. That's what sets him apart.
Indeed - extraordinary longevity of performance at the very top level.

Based on performances since I was born:

1. Virender Sehwag
2. Rahul Dravid
3. Brian Lara
4. Sachin Tendulkar
5. Jacques Kallis
6. Steve Waugh
7. Adam Gilchrist
8. Shaun Pollock
9. Curtly Ambrose
10. Muttiah Muralitharan
11. Glenn McGrath

I know I cheated making Dravid open but he's been so much better than all the openers IMO that I couldn't resist.

Based on cricket I've seen/followed:

1. Virender Sehwag
2. Rahul Dravid
3. Kumar Sangakkara
4. Sachin Tendulkar
5. Jacques Kallis
6. Brian Lara
7. Adam Gilchrist
8. Shaun Pollock
9. Dale Steyn
10. Muttiah Muralitharan
11. Glenn McGrath

Not that different as you can see. Again cheated with Dravid, but yeah, same reasoning obviously. Smith and Hayden obviously a bit stiff, as was Warne who I'm sure I'd bring in at times dependant on conditions etc. I also found it hard to not find a place for Chanderpaul.

I just realised that I managed to completely forget Ponting for no particular reason. He can open with Dravid.

I am sure I must be missing some batsmen for the tail is too long :p

An Australian team based on cricket I've seen would be interesting. Most of it would pick itself but Hussey, Martyn and Clarke would be competing for two places and I'd have to choose between Lee and Clark for my third seamer; two such different cricketers in so many ways. I'd even be tempted to chuck Watto in ahead of Langer so I could pick MacGill as my fourth bowler.

You can scratch the fast bowlers of that list because you can't compare a batsman carreer with a fast bowlers carreer that is insane

And the start before and after don't make much senseless How many started playing at 16? Not many silly comparisons really. Pull list of cricketers who had 23 year carreer.
