The Ashes

Current Test 12 + Tait, Watson, White and Katich although I have doubts about Lehmann survivng until then. If he doesn't put on a ton before the end of the NZ series I think he will be dropped and a young opener (maybe Rogers from WA) will be picked.

I think the Aussie selectors have shown their hand in India by picking young players who are on the fringes and will improve with the experiance.

Watson is my pick to make his test debut in England if Lehmann fails. The conditions would be ideal for him. He will be the Aussie answer to Flintoff.

People like MacGill, Love etc will already be over there playing county cricket and can be called up easily. It is more important for the young players to get the experiance of being in a touring team and to get to know the ins and outs of the Aussie team. This has worked spectacularly with Michael Clarke.

.

Mike Hussey might get a go ahead of Rogers. He's the right age to make the step-up, and he's got experience over in England too, so that should help him there.

I'm not discounting him for a second. I think he is a very good player but how old is he now? Rogers might be the right age when Hayden and Langer retire. I think it is a very open position and a good season by any young player could see them on the plane.

PS Glenn McGrath wants to play WC 2007 so he won't retire...

no one's going to retire! the next will be lehmann but that'll be after he gets injured badly some time in the not too distant future... Then it'll be another 2 years before we lose Langer, McGrath, Warne and Martyn.... we'll lose them all at once i reckon
