I mean obviously that NZ team wasn’t the greatest batting unit but it feels like they get a bit more downplayed than actually deserved.
True, I doubt that New Zealand would've won either 1985 Perth or 1987 Christ Church without their batting lineup contributing

I would say I am confirm they won't had won anything without a contribution from their batting line-up

I mean I’ve seen people routinely here and outside CW often have Hobbs and Tendulkar above any pure bowler.

Excluding Bradman as an outlier, the vast majority would also consider thel best player ever to have been a batting allrounder
The one right next to Sobers is Imran. And we know what he is. And I woukd pick either of these over Bradman too.

They were a top tier team of the era and I don't think they on batting merits they could be.

That is not the aargument though. Imran and Sobers are of very similar quality. There is no major gap between them. Bowling ARs also be quality.
You clearly haven’t read the discussion leading up to it and missed the point completely. Good job.

McGrath averaged 27 with a strike rate of 72 against in 17 Tests against the second best team of his era.

In Asian pitches where are often regarded as the greatest test for a fast bowler, he took just one 5-Fer in 19 Tests in Asia which is not impressive.
While those can be used a fairly handy argument for why he's not the GOAT, it's really not a deal breaker here.

There are two major reasons why Sachin is seem a a contender for best after Bradman. His longevity being one and his record in the 90's being the other.

The intimation of his record in the 90's is that he was brilliant vs all the great pace attacks in the 90's and I don't recall that being the case.

I'm not going to pretend that I have the numbers in front of me, but from memory as I fight sleep awaiting qualifying in Japan, he averaged in the mid or low 30's in matches featuring Donald, Wasim and possibly McGrath.

How is that any different from any perceived issues with McGrath's record.
