For those who say ODI is proper cricket without slogging up until over 40, I refer you to that "shot" by Gilchrist, and the subsequent two "shots" by Hayden (the second of which has just gone for 6).

Yep, it's even worse with these slow pitches and outfields where you often have to 'flog' the ball to get boundaries.

There should so be a test match WC. It will probably last a year.. but it would be so awesome!

Does not really matter (Gilly and Haydos falling) with Ponting at the crease, the rest of the batting to come, and no Vaas and Murali to come.

I dont understand this decision, I can understand resting one of them (namely Murali) but not the two of them. And surely, the time to rest them was the Ireland game.

I hesitate to think it is negativity in play, because this SL team do not (at least so far) play like that. Neither do I think it is something Moody and Mahela would usually do.

So, yes, I am at a loss, and disappointed too...however, I am glad I did not wake up and watch this game, as without Murali and Vaas - whats the point?

God, this is such a procession now.

I don't know how serious Chappell was with his comment about Sri Lanka being investigated by the anti-corruption unit, but if one were cynically-minded it is exactly the sort of fixture (i.e. with both sides safely qualified) where this sort of thing could happen. Oz were always going to start as favourites, but I bet their odds came right in when Murali & Vaas were left out. If one were to have known that in advance it would've been a real advantage.
