Looking ahead to the future I've taken Matt Frith and Flinn Titt out of the picture for now but they may well stay but if I'm thinking longer term I'll need to get rid of them at some point even if not at end of season.
As is evident in Foster, Phelps, Hayes I've got a solid basis for a seam attack with Howe and Goonesekara both exciting seam bowling all-rounder options.
Kudakwashe Zulu plays a part as our only specialist spinner with Paul Hailstone playing a part as a batter who can bowl some part-time spin.
However, when it comes to the batting I think we need some serious improvement....
Mettias is currently 17 years, 1 week and by the end of the season will be past 17 and a half. Not sure if I'll get the development I want within 3 years from him and his fielding at 1 current isn't great either. Only a recent signing but I may well sell. Unfortunately, we don't have huge funds at Winton so will be looking at the market but any sale (he may well end up staying if other options don't come around) is likely to come around once I've sold our better players post CWC6.
Brock Stone will stay around as will Pasindu Goonesekara and likely Paul Hailstone.
I've not yet made a final decision but I will likely rotate keeping duties between Sahir Shafiq and Rufaro Sutobe. Sutobe is a very recent signing but I'm thinking the plan might be he gets 2 games keeping+coaching, Shafiq gets 1 game keeping and some bowling in games and a couple years down the line I can have Sutobe as my main keeper with Shafiq as a credible backup keeping option who can also maybe be an allrounder when Sutobe is keeping.
I'm hoping my XI can look something like this
**
Goonesekara
**
Stone
Hailstone
Sotobe (wk)
Howe
Shafiq
Hayes
Foster
Phelps
In an ideal world I sell Mettias, bring in a player with the opener trait, bring in another batter to play in the middle order and maybe another seam bowler - unsure on this and if I do keep Frith I definetly won't need one. Might still sell Frith and hope fitness doesn't become an issue - the bowling options in this XI plus Zulu should be pretty easy to manage and ensure with 2 decent bowling coaches at the club already they are both getting near to 2 full games of bowling + coaching each week.
