Stokes injured in the Hundred. Who steps up to be England captain ?

SCurran recall was actually my reflex reaction, posted in the Sri Lanka tour thread. Does he even play red ball cricket these days though? (Genuine question!) But I can't think of another allrounder they might turn to if they want to get close to a like-for-like replacement for Stokes.
Hasn't stopped England from picking a player for Tests lately

If they want another allrounder then Dawson would be a much better choice than Curran IMO, not that he will ever get a chance now. Or they could go leftfield and take a chance on a young player like George Hill, Lyndon James or Joey Evison. That would be a very Bazball option.

Confirmed now that Stokes is out for the rest of the U.K. summer. He’s hoping to be fit for the Pakistan tour

Re two spinners playing in England home tests

has there been any since Emburey and Edmonds?

I’m not including part time spinners like root but bona fide selected as spinners

I remember Swann and Monty helping England to win in India

since the 80s and Emburey and Edmonds, England playing two spinners is so rare at home

Here's an example from 1998, with Croft and Giles both playing.
Not especially successful.

More recently, Swann and Panesar both played at Cardiff in 2009.
Also not hugely successful.

This was more like it; Moeen and Dawson against SA at Lord's in 2017

And again in the same series.

Moeen and Rashid for two of the tests against India in 2018
At Southampton
And at The Oval

I don’t know what you’re all talking about, I’ve watched a stack of Tests where the likes of Ali, Leach, Bashir etc have played as second spinner behind Root

Ignoring the obvious point that @CartyDurham had told you in no uncertain terms that Root doesn't count, I hadn't got as far as checking Leach's tests. It's possible that he played as well as another spinner at some point. Maybe with Dom Bess? But I'm done for the day, so someone else can check that out if they haven't anything better to do.

Liam Dawson got a home summer alongside Mo at one point I think, vs South Africa I want to say.

Edit: yep looking it up, was 2017. Mo and Rashid also played together, the following home summer vs India.
