Smith did have a stinker last time he toured here averaging just 29 but as a cricket fan hope he would tour in 27 and have a great series. Next time england tour here would be in 2028 or 2029 doubt root will play till then

Throughout that series, he didn't used his feet properly, he feared to step out of the crease, which he used to do often in 2017 series.

Yeah I don't think Root is staying beyond the 2027 Ashes unless he's very close to the record, if he is then he might do another Ashes cycle.

I feel as good as a problem solver Smith is, he will find a way. Although the current hundred was on a flat wicket, he already looked quite rejuvenated and fluent to me. Wouldn't be surprised at all with another 2-3 year peak which would make the Sachin Lara Sobers Viv and then Smith debates very interesting

Root did score double hundred in jadeja less attack( we all know biggest reason for ashwin s success in india is due to jadeja building pressure )but had bumrah so evens out. He went missing next three matches on rank truners. It would have been intresting how smith would have done on them

Those pitches were F.U.C.K.E.D., I'm not backing even Bradman to do well on that dreaded Ahmedabad wicket against Ashwin and Jadeja.

Although I rate Root a slightly better player of spin than Smith, Smith gets much more credit from me for his IND performances. Roots big innings came on much more batting friendly wkts in IND than Smith, who I felt has done better on spin friendly wkts

I didn't expect this - how he struggled against bumrah in Indian pitches , but Scored 730+ runs against bumrah led attack in very seamer friendly pitches of england (2021) ?

Gavaskar and kallis were bowling but sanga was quite aggressive. Surprised you found him boring

It did not help with reverse swing that bumrah was getting and some stupid shots that root played esp in rajkot test didn't help either
