No. I don't believe you at all.

How can a sport that has one country playing it competitively be the 4th biggest in the world? It has no World Cup, or international series (Gaelic Football, the thing they play with the Irish is a completely different sport).

4th biggest Football League in the world.

Gridiron doesn't have a Wrold Cup. Only Soccer does, and thats is second and third.

And to whoever the **** said Gay-FL has got to be shitting themselves.

Way more skill then that game where they run into each other.

Yes but Gridion is played internationally. It is definately a bigger code than AFL.

Please...the day AFL has more skill than League or Union is the day AFL players were correct sized shorts.

so never :p

AFL is a disgarce to Australia, its actually a fact most people in the country couldnt give a rats **** bout it.

apparently the popularity of afl in meblourne is down 8% on 2003 and the popularity of rugby league in melbourne is up around 14%.

mind u AFL is still 3 times more popular there...

Which is why it number one matey.

And I mean really, league requires much less skill than Aussie Rules.

League, you get the ball run a bit, pass backwards, pass again. At the end of it all, you get a try which takes forever.

Aussie Rules requires more skill, much more skill.

The only things league has more of is blockheads and tackles.

And also, there is an actual international competition of Australian Rules. Was on Fox Footy last year.

If I can find that page on the AFL site on how much more it has evolved this year (apart from my beloved Bulldogs) I will.

Infact, I'll look for it now. AFL has overtaken League in every state bar Sydney.

With the Bears' success, they have overtaken the Broncos in support, memberships have increased by 50% over the last five years in Brisbane.

That's just plain ignorance to a sport that has been around a lot longer than AFL. There is more than just hitting the ball up, there is skill in tackling (which doesn't just revolve around bumping into the other guy or flopping on him or grabbing his jersey). There is skill in passing (cut-out passes, run arounds, inside passes, short passes...the list goes on). Then there is various kicking attributes, which don't require just length, they involve chip kicks, bombs, grubbers, sideline kicks, 40-20s, once again the list goes on.

At least in the 'good' sport we don't get a point for missing, gee...there's some skill in that isn't there!

Once again you're barking up the wrong tree. If the Broncos & Lions were to play a grand final on the exact same day in Brisbane, I know which stadium would have more people in it!

With success comes success, so of course more people are going to take notice of AFL. But that figure of 50% membership is misleading, most of the people taking out memberships don't even support the Lions, they are ex-pat Victorians.

Look, kicking a point is the ****ing system. Which therefore makes it more orginal.

And do you think there is no skill in Footy tackles?

Your passes are like ours, you need to pass through packs, choose a player to handball it too. A height. And the kicking requires more variety, and there is more chance of the ball bouncing the wrong way and such.

Look, we aren't going to agree on what is better, I guess if I grew up over there instead of in WA, I may like Rugby League a bit.

But I don't.

It'll stay that way.

None of the footy codes is 'better' than the other, they both require immense skill to play well but just different skills. Deal with it and move on. SHEESH.

Hey did anyone else notice that we're on a CRICKET site here? Talking footy is OT. Take to the designated OT part of the site if you must engage in a ****ing contest.

Exactly. A great deal of it is simply based on where you grew up, like Sir B.I said.
And anyway, we all know which sport requires the MOST skill...

Its the player that has the skill not the sport, if you have no skills it wouldent matter what sport you play you would be crap.

Golf?

Well if you have played it it does take a lot of skill to be able to hit the ball straight and not hook or slice it the wrong way and your swing has to be perfect.
