Terrible decision. I don't actually mind Zondo being picked he has played well the last season or 2. But not in place of one of the most consistent performers. I'm surprised to see Markram in the squad. Hopefully this is just a try to see what we have available selections.Zondo ahead of farhaan is a joke...
It does seem as though that might be the case.Hopefully this is just a try to see what we have available selections.
But Behardien was assured his World Cup dreams were not over. He will come into consideration after the first half of the India series, when South Africa will reassess their squad. "He knows, every single player knows that after the third game, we are going to sit and decide. We will definitely be resting, rotating and giving opportunity otherwise we will be sitting with the same names as we prepare for 2019," Zondi said.
Not surprised markram is in the squad. Think Ottis wants him in the team even if it's middle order instead of his normal opening role.Terrible decision. ]Zondo inclusion in the ODI squad does have a whiff of a quota call, although have also read his Dad is a big shot so possibly also that to consider.I've been pretty happy with the way the quotas have been handled by the team management but you get the feeling this Phehlukwayo inclusion really was purely racially motivated. No sense picking him as a fifth bowler when he only gets a couple of overs in the second innings. Really would have liked de Bruyn in there.

I don't think there was a quota call in the inclusion of Phel' though as he was included at the expense of Bavuma who is not white.
Exactly my line of thinking. Bavuma for Phehlukwayo is not a straight switch. Unfortunately it just makes you think there are other factors at play. I'm not knocking Lucky, I'm actually bias towards all my Dolphins boys haha, but the selection just didn't sit well with me.Bavuma fractured a finger so wasn't in consideration for this game.
I think if temba was available and not de bruyn , they would have played the extra batter...
And yet in the first innings he got Pujara when set, which was a big, big stick...Worst is Faf only gave Phehlukwayo 10 overs all game, so presumably he wasn’t happy or felt confident enough to bowl Phehlukwayo more, which isn’t good for the player or team.
Still does not make it a good selection....And yet in the first innings he got Pujara when set, which was a big, big stick...
Agreed. Things get complicated if Steyn is fit thought. So with QDK`s being so out of form I can not see SA sensibly going on with the 6/5 strategy at the moment. Things might change if he really gets his confidence back during the LO stuff... but really Bavuma/de Bruyn need to start in the test team for the Aussies.
Sadly, after some good performances, I do think that Morkel would need to be replaced by Steyn.... Philander was great with the new ball as always, but Rabada was a real threat with the older ball. Bowled some great spells. Obviously there is always the problem of somebody breaking down, but we should be alright with Maharaj in the team if something happens.Agreed.
