South Africa team selection

Possible. Would look a whole lot better on AB but Faf/Otis probably get the stick
I think the selectors are the ones who come out looking the best here. Nearly all the comments I've read on this have been anti-AB and his "picking and choosing" and have regarded the selectors as being completely justified in not picking him.

Truth is I do think it is a bit out of ABdV's character. While you may consider him selfish for caring about his own happiness. He has always been honest and considerate in is attitude. Deciding 24h before selection announcement does not feel right. But Faf/Otis asking and him saying yes, and them then trying to get him included makes far more sense.

Majority of support he is getting is from Indian cricket fans. In fact 99.99%

If I had to look into it from the years of reading , watching and hearing things on AB - I would agree.

Aren't they justified?

It is a tough question but if Faf and Otis did want AB. Whose opinion carries greater weightage. Captain of the playing team, coach who has been told he will be sacked if they don't win the world cup or non-playing selectors ?

They are justified. What I was saying that very few people seem to be criticising the selectors for not picking him (apart from maybe Indian fans as SeamUp has noted), rather the criticism has been directed at AB.

Question of time immemorial, ask the Aussies? But it did put everybody in an awkward position. I do think that Steyn, Morris and Amla may have been Faf and Otis's choice as well.

What I`m thinking is did the squad really know about this? May have just come as much of a surprise to them as well and now a number are wondering if they do not quite have full confidence of Faf/Otis.

But this is all pure speculation.

But surely they would have known the selection criteria and that AB had been given the option of going to the World Cup but turned it done? So they would have known what was necessary to get AB into the side and done something about it.

Unless this only happened after the Sri Lanka series was over, but then I would ask why, if they had concerns with the batting, did they not take a look at other players who would have been eligible as a result of having played domestic cricket?

The thing is IMHO is that from looking at the past CSA has a record of making decisions that has not been good for South African cricket

With all of the players leaving South Africa, the last thing they need to do is **** over a player 24 hrs out from a World Cup squad announcement. Imagine if the player who's left out was Markram, you've still got to get 10+ years of internationals out of a guy like him. It's just a dick move in general from AB.

Rassie would have probably been the guy to miss out.

If a player is to be left out, it should be JP. He is a minnow basher and had too many chances.

The Saffer batting line up is absolute dog ****. AB should have been in the squad if South Africa were serious about competing. But heh can't upset mediocre ****s like Miller, Duminy etc.

Gentlemen, we have a bigger issue than the AB fiasco. Firdose is writing articles on Cricinfo again!

AB rightly didn't get a spot. You don't get to do this even as AB - it would have sent the wrong message entirely.

His history of shunning the Proteas for other tournaments is fine if that's what he prioritises, but you don't then get to come back just before the squad announcement and make your case. It's just disrespectful.
