I do love the way in rugby that you have to practically kill someone in the open for everyone to accept that a red card was the right decision.
It's a man's game! :p

Seriously tho, with your opinion of footballers who go to ground a bit easily I thought you'd approve.

Fair play to the jocks in the 2nd half. They stood up very well with only the 14 men & were rewarded with the two late consolations.

On a personal note it was nice to see Gareth Thomas go over the whitewash a couple of times, fully vindicating my decision to bring him into my fantasy team &, of course, I look forward to seeing young Stedly's new avatar!!

I just find it hard to believe when people are dubious about a red card for kicking someone in the face. Instinctive reaction or not it is still a boot in the face. As far as the fantasy team goes I only had 3 players from this last game anyway, but I did have Paterson (1 try) and Peel (2 assists), don't think the other player Charvis did owt. Anyway should get a lot more points than the first week.

I'm less convinced by Scott Murray's sending off tho. Yes, arguably he shouldn't have reacted after Gough caught him late, but it was a heat-of-the-moment thing.
Exactly. If a dirty, great, scummy, sheep-shagging choirboy took anyone out that late I'd expect them to lash out.

Well, look at it this way,Scot Murray is not a dirty player,it was a heat of the moment reaction and he showed no malice what so ever in his actions.

He would defintely not have been sent off if he made contact anywhere apart from Ian Gough's face and i don't believe he intentionaly tried to kick him there, and Gough was fine anyway.

It was an instinctive reaction, which looks really bad as his kick was straight in Gough's face, but it was a late tackle and i think most players would have reacted in some way or another in the same situation.

Saying this however,i don;t for one second think Walsh was wrong.

Dreadful performance by England,i read in the times that Noon didn't touch the ball for the whole of the first half, which is pretty disgraceful and doesn't say much about Tindal's distribution skills. We hardly got any forwards running at pace at all,and when we did we scored, and i'm really ****ed of that Dallagio replaced Worsley. The tactics of keeping the ball in play were a complete failure and i have no idea why at every opputunity we tried to kick the ball downs the Italian back three's throat.

Ellis is not assured another in his controlling of the game, and as much as i hate to say it,Dawson looks the better option.

As soon as Ollie Smith gets back playing well,Tindal should be out of there for good,

Tindall is just not good enough. I thought that he was our weak link in the World Cup too.

There are lot of good things about English rugby atm. For example, I think that Cohen and Cueto are two of the hardest working and most talented wingers in the game. You only have to look at their "strike rate" to see that. The pack, is normally very strong, but as soon as that falters it puts added pressure on a 10, 12, 13 which is just simply not good enough.

More importantly, how the hell did he manage to pull Zara Phillips?

I think Paul Deacon would make a very good union scrum-half, were he to switch. Possibly better than both of those. His attributes are better suited to the 15-a-side code than proper rugby.

You may have hit on something there. Deacon has a useful kicking game (and would be another option for place kicks too) and is about the right size for a Union 9. There's a big difference between the positions in the two codes tho, so he'd need time to adapt. What is he? 25/26?

Personally the one League half-back I'd love to see have a crack @ Union is Tim Smith from Parramatta. His kicking game is made for Union. Think he'd make a quality fly-half rather than scrum-half tho. Pity he's a crim, but with his surname he'd could have an English grandparent tucked away...

Unfortunately intent does not come into it. If he kicks someone in the face, he's gone, regardless.

Just as long as it's not another Andy Farell incident....

Sin-bin & reversal of the penalty would've been enough IHMO. Wlash may've been technically correct, but I do hope he hasn't ruined the game as a spectacle for the 2nd 40.
Right decision was made, the refs have to stamp out all the stuff like that with a zero tolerance stance.

Walsh said ' unfourtunately under the laws of the game that's a red card'

He can't ingnore the laws of the game because he is worried about the spectacle.

Murray was daft &, yes, Walsh was technically correct to brandish red. It just seems very harsh to me (and that's not necessarily Walsh's fault as he was correctly applying the law) because Murray was hit hard & late. I hope any disciplinary board will consider his sending-off punishment enough. Murray's a lock from the "gentle giant" school. Had it have been someone like Grewcock kicking the oppo in the mush I'd have probably taken a dimmer view of it.

Luckily it didn't ruin the spectacle too much as yer sweaties did rather well in the 2nd half.
