btw what did S De silva do?
Somachandra De Silva was a leg spin bowling all rounder from the 70s that played in the first two years when we got Test status. He basically came out of retirement to play for us, so his stats may not be that great but he was awsome for us in the 70s. Easier the best leg spinner we have ever produced.

Can I have a few players playing in both sides in a match? I'm thinking of one limited-overs match between the Indian team of the mid/late 90's and the present Indian team.

Tendulkar bowls to Tendulkar
Tendulkar hits a six
Tendulkar looks down at the pitch at Tendulkar looking like he could kill him

Come on Marc, that isn't really needed.

Good idea Aussie btw (even if it isn't original)

Don't know how you and barney left Shane Bond out of your ROW sides in favour of Harmisson though...

Edit - Oh you picked the sides at the end of last year...

ROUND 1:

Australia All-time vs West Indies All-time, Sydney Cricket Ground, Australia

The Greatest series of All time with the greatest cricketers of all time begun at the World famous Sydney cricket ground with the Australia hosting the supremely powerful West Indians, in a super game that ended with Australia barely holding on by 1 wicket. Initially Sir Donald Bradman won the toss in overcast conditions on the first morning and put the West Indians in. Lillee & McGrath legends of their respective era's as sperheads of Australia attack beat the bat countless times but Hunte & Greenidge were equal to the task, building a foundation for arguably the most powerful middle-order of all-time. But the West Indies didn't really capitalise thanks to the great Shane Warne who bowled superbly well to take 6 for 71 againts some batsman who were very aggressive towards, but it must be said he was assisted by the SCG pitch which is known throughout history to be helpful to spinners.

When Australia reply begun Hall & Ambrose were fast & lethal and Australia lost Trumper early who fended a Wes Hall thunderbolt that nearly took his head of the the keeper while Morris battled away for his 25. But Bradman & Chappell, the two greatest batsmen to come out of Australia were equal to the pace of the West Indies and delighted the SCG crowd with their aggressive strokeplay. Bradman especially was brilliant againts Gibbs hitting him for all of his three sixes. Australia got up to 401 with an overall lead of 84 on 1st innings. But the West Indies lead by a brilliant 143 by Greenidge, all contributed to a respectable 357, leaving the Aussie neading 280 to win in a day. It was a superb final the that shifted power so often it was impossible to predict who was going to win. West may have felt hard done by a confident lbw shout by Marshall againts McGrath 1st ball which would have given Marshall a hatrick in a destructive late after spell. But overall one could not have asked for a better start to the tournament

England All-time vs South Africa All-time, Lord's, London, England

If the clash down under started of the tournament brilliantly. This clash at the home of cricket made that loook like a joke as England lead by a destructive 155 not out by Andrew `Freddie` Flintoff came from behind to score an unbelievable 453 to record a jaw-dropping one wicket victory over the South Africans. This game had some superb individual performaces. At the start when England put South Africa in on a green top tailor made for the likes of Treuman, Barnes,Botham & Flintoff even Hammond got some of his medium pacers to swing about, Hutton would have been very happy with his decision has the South Africans lost 34wickets without much on the board. But their lower order fought back lead at first by a fighting 66 by Dudley Nourse who held the innings together as Barlow, Cameron & Procter batted with controlled aggression to enable South Africa to post a more than respectable 375.

The South Africans took that momentum with the ball & rocked the English with the ball lead brilliant by `White Lightining` himself Donald who took 7 wickets in a hostile 23 overs of fast bowling and was well assisted by the other five seamers. The only highlight in England miserable 235 was the Botham/Flintoff partnership. As the sun came out later in the match killing the movement, the pitch became extremely good to bat on and the South Africans made good use of it giving England 450 odd to win. But England were equally brilliant with the bat with the entire top seven scoring more than 25 & Flintoff a fantastic 155.

India All-time vs New Zealand All-time, Wankede Stadium, Mumbai, India

On a flat Mumbai deck, India rattled up a mammoth 708 againts the Kiwis with centuries from Merchant, local Mumbai greats Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar wo scored a wonder double century while Hazare scored an equally brilliant 97. Has he has done for most of his career Sir Richard Hadlee was the pick of the Kiwi bowlers with 4 for 135 from 42 wonderful overs in tough bowling conditions while Vettori toiled away willingly for 3/174.

But even tough the kiwis spent such a long time in the heat of Mumbai they battled really well lead by New Zealand two greatest ever batsmem a magnificent 200 by Martin Crowe & a controlled 82 by Stewie Dempster againts the spin trio of Kumble, Gupte & Makhand to post 426. The Indians understandably didn't enforce the follow on but instead went for quick second innings runs as Tendulkar rattled up 300 runs in the match.

In their second go, the Kiwis needing 450 to win fell short by 109 runs with the great Hadlee backing up his tireless bowling performance in the match with a wonderfull aggressive innings of 111 and was involved with a partnership that might have raised a bit of hope for the Kiwis with big hitting all-rounder Chris Cairs has they really attacked the Indian spinners. The strong pacy Mohammad Nissar was the pick of the bowlers in the second innnings.

Pakistan All-time vs Sri Lanka All-time, National Stadium, Karachi, Pakistan

Pakistan won a very convincing clash by 10 wickets againts the Sri Lanka's who just couldn't handle the Pakistani's. Sri Lanka were all out for 220 on the 1st day after their batsmen failed to cope with the Pakistani pacers as the legendary Imran Khan took 5 hostile wickets. Only Aravinda De Silva showed real assurance at the crease with an accomplished 93. When Pakistan replied they put themselves right in front with a huge 499 with Mohammad scoring an assured 167 while all the top orrder batsmen contributed & Muralitharan as is the case for almost every game the great but contriversial off-spinner has played was the pick of the Sri Lankan bowlers.

Second time around Sri Lanka were a bit better with the bat scoring 289 lead by classy half-centuries by Jayawardene & Sangakkara. But it wasn't enough as Pakistan won easily in the end.
