I mean how much is losing 2 straight series at home to India worse than losing 3 straight series at home to SA?

As far as Langer's concerned, I don't think he's as vital as he seems to think he is to the Australian setup. Hasn't really setup a culture for the team to grow in.

Losing without Smith and Warner was dire enough but maybe understandable, the most recent series was a ridiculous upset tho. Nothing close to SA v Aus.

They beat Australia at home for the first time since the WIs did in 1992/93 The Frank Worrell Trophy, when post that test series loss Australia had won 24 series (25 if you include the one off ICC Super Series Test) and drawn 3. Think it's pretty remarkable what SA did then as well, considering one of their wins had them chase 414 down as well.

No Daemon is spot on. Aus conditions are as similar to South Africa's as you get in the world, and as far away from India's. South Africa winning in Aus is nowhere near as big a deal. Before 2018 no Asian side had ever won a Test series in Aus

No need to downplay SA's feat that much just to make Langer look bad, he's doing a decent job on his own already.

I know the history, but history is just that. End of the day it was a really strong SA side that beat them in that series. I don't think it was as big an upset as the recent BG but I admit I didn't follow cricket as closely back then so will defer to others.

Both were pretty historic for their time tbh.

My point ultimately is that I don't think just losing to India is why Langer should go. It's the rest of his tenure that should be looked at as well.

If your point is that Burgey makes lots of dumb points all the time then yes I agree

Burgey can exaggerate, but I don't think he's entirely wrong either lol. I just wanted to see if some of the poor results were as bad as previous failures.

The normal awards that everyone else has
Langer has always seemed to be a weird little sycophant who just says the “right” ****.

“I’d run thru a wall for Steve Waugh”. “Me and Haydos are brothers”. “Elite whatever”. Spare me.

It’s clear this playing group see through him. Times have changed since the late 80s when Langer was coming through the system. If there’s was no smoke, Cummins and the others would come to the media with elite support for their coach. They’re not.

Bye JL

CA board having an all-day meeting without backing him was equivalent of saying we don't support you but it would look better if you resigned rather than us sacking you.

Was never going to survive after yesterday.

Who replaces him is important. I never liked Langer so I'm happy he's gone, but I worry about what the replacement will do with so many tough away tours. The Sri Lanka series should be a non-negotiable win but it's very easy to lose playing the wrong style cricket, for example. Important to keep the Pakistan series at least close, too.
