Shootout in Lahore

Hi Xuhaib

My heart goes out to cricket lovers from Pakistan.
.......

Take care
not at all surprised the most honest and touching analysis of the situation comes from SJS. indians always had sikhs as the proudest defenders of the nation before the khalistan years. they've regained the respect in the last two decades through a collective fightback. pakistan i feel is not yet ready for that since they have not accepted that there is a problem within their system at the moment. it is going to get worse in the next few years and then, hopefully, the turnaround will happen. it is going to be a tough future for the majority of the normal pakistanis who, like 95% of humanity, just wish peace, prosperity and happiness for his/her family.

I am distressed about this situation, but I cant help but think what would have happened if this was the Indian team attacked and how this event would playout. What would the response of the Indian government been?
Good Lord! That is something I rather not think about. I'm very happy and relieved that Indian Government had the balls and the intelligence to back out of the tour to Pakistan.

It most definitely would've resulted in a war between the two countries.

Weren't you one of the one who said it's understandable Aus didn't want to travel there? As others have said, it's too soon especially as people have died, but it does vindicate Australia's decision though and the guys who called them cowards and rubbished the Australian government's advice to them probably should have a good look at themselves.
Call me an idiot and tell me I'm not getting the point or reading posts, but how could they see that such a event was going to happen or not happen in the future? Nobody has a crystal ball and know what will happen. Yeah hindsight is a great thing isn't it?

As I said in the other thread, RIP and very tragic. Sport is now poorer as a result.

Actually Craig, it had been established a long time ago that Pakistan has been a haven and a breeding ground for terrorist organisations, which is why teams were fearful of going there. Plus it's close proximity to Afghanistan and the very high influence of the Taliban made it pretty much common sense for any foreign team to avoid touring the country. This has nothing to do with hindsight and both Australia and India were 100% right at the time in not going to Pakistan.

A lot of you lads, SJS included, are painting with extremely broad strokes here. The conflict that's raging in the country isn't limited to a terror campign led by a breakaway faction - the root of the problem lies much deeper.

Oh, and Voltman and SoC aren't the ones being gleefully vindictive either.

My heart goes out to the people who lost their lives.

Well I think I wasn't being clear, in that they knew this shoot out would happen. Fair enough I agree with you and I was a little bit wrong.

You really come off as a partisan idiot in this post. The 'I-told-you-so' attitude employed by so many here has everything to do with hindsight.

Plenty of information from consulates, foreign affairs depts, experts etc. This isn't hindsight, it was foresight that something could happen, and they were right - it did.

A very horrible thing indeed..
Great work to the Security and Police, Rest In Peace to the people who lost their lives.

Must really stuff up the SL Cricket team?
Do you think the test will go on for Pakistan and SL in time?

Good luck to the cricketers with their recovery.

Sad to see this all happened outside the ground where Sri Lanka had their greatest achievement.

Sad way to see our greatest ever captain finish his captaincy career as well.

It has absolutely nothing to do with hindsight. Care to explain the fact that nothing, absolutely nothing has been done to get rid of the Taliban and their influence over Pakistan? The fact that still today terrorists in Pakistan continue to grow and multiply? The fact that today there are more terrorist attacks in Pakistan then there has ever been before?

This hurts me too mate, the sub continent and cricket needs a thriving, peaceful Pakistan. But that's the problem with Pakistan, they fail to acknowledge they have a problem. They have a huge problem and now is the time to step up and do something about it.

You're right, of course. I really didn't think anything could happen- surely after everything that had went on, the security would be so tight as to not allow it? I was completely wrong, though. Ah ****.

Very good news coverage blog on CI:

We’re shocked but everyone is OK – Sangakkara

"There are a few injuries but everyone is safe and all the players are out of danger,” Kumar Sangakkara had told CNN IBN. "We are shocked, but apart from that everyone is okay. Thilan [Samaraweera] has a shrapnel wound in his leg, but he is fine. [Tharanga] Paranavitana had shrapnel in his chest, but thank God it wasn't very deep and just on the surface.

"I had shrapnel injuries in my shoulder, but they have all been removed and I'm okay now. Ajantha [Mendis] had shrapnel in his neck and scalp, but he too has had medical attention and is fine. Everyone else is perfectly all right.

"It's very unfortunate that this has happened. Everything had gone on very well until this morning, but it just goes to show that nothing is as it seems. I don't regret coming here to play cricket because that's what we have been doing all our lives. That is our profession.

"But I regret this incident, what has happened and the situation that we have had to go through. All we want to do now is to go back home to our families, get back home and be safe."

Truly a defining moment in world history, let alone cricket history. RIP to those brave souls killed. Hoping for a speedy recovery to all those injured. Really hits hard when some of our cricketing heroes are so directly caught up in this.

Can go into a long winded debate over politics/sport/governments/terrorists etc but the fact is all my thoughts are with those suffering from this tragedy.

I wonder why they continue to allow morons like you on this forum.
Same reason they keep allowing you on here. Entertainment.

Certainly unfortunate what's happened, although I'm not going to offer my condolences to the families of the dead because - well - let's be honest, they ain't going to read this. Glib sympathies are pointless, as far as I'm concerned.

Biggest loser in this is Pakistan cricket.

And for anyone who doesn't like my cheesy, occasionally offensive and occasionally predictable humour, I'm sure you can put me on ignore - I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

Holy ****. I haven't been this shaken by a piece of news since 9/11.
Yeah, this. Didn't believe it when a mate told me today. Thoughts go out to everyone caught up in it, and to all the Pakistani fans on this forum, you deserve a whole lot better.

This is one of those situations in which it is almost impossible to find the appropriate words to react because of the shock and the maelstrom of reactions inside. I cannot imagine how it must have been to be on that team bus, and my heart goes out to everyone affected in any way by loss today.

I also dearly hope that nothing rash is said in the heat of the aftermath that creates more rifts than already exist.
