Who is the better ODI Player
It shan't be. Kallis' SR cost his team too much way too often. Him batting at times was quite detrimental for his team at times. Jayasuriya is the perfect opposite of that. Every single ball he faced was valuable. Re bowling, Kallis has a better Avg, but don't think that matters much. Around equal in that. Overall ODIs, I think it's Not close. Jayasuriya is in serious contention for ODI AT XI, Kallis would be lucky to get in SA one.Jayasuriya:-
13430 runs @32.4 S/R:- 91.2
323 wickets @36.8 WPM:- 0.726
Kallis:-
11529 runs @44.4 S/R:- 72.9
273 wickets @31.8 WPM:-0.832
Kallis with a much better bowling record and higher batting average. Guess people are gonna choose Jayasuriya for his explosive opening and for sort of revolutionizing the role.
Don't know. Jayasuriya maybe. Either way it should be close.

I'd go:What would be An ODI AT XI?
Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Viv Richards, AB De Villiers, MS Dhoni, Kapil Dev, Muralitharan, Joel Garner, Wasim Akram are some names that come to mind. Jayasuriya as the other opener? Was Saqlain Mushtaq better than murali in odi's? Does Bevan need to be there with Dhoni?
What about Shakib?
Okay, so a World XI has the following look up:What would be An ODI AT XI?

Imo, Pollock should really make atleast the second team.I'd go:
World Xi
Rohit
Sachin
Richards
Kohli
ABD
Dhoni*+
Klusener
Akram
Garner
McGrath
Murali
World A
Jayasuriya
Gilchrist +
Ponting*
Abbas
Lara
Bevan
Dev
Bond
Starc
Saqlain
Lee
Yeah probably should take him over LeeImo, Pollock should really make atleast the second team.
I agree with almost all of this.Okay, so a World XI has the following look up:
Tendulkar
X
Kohli
Viv
ABD
Dhoni/Bevan
X
Akram
Garner
McGrath
Murali
If you aren't too posh, you mostly have something similar. Now the other picks two are pretty combination dependent. Tendulkar's partner can be either of Lara, Sharma, Jayasuriya, Gilchrist, Anwar, Greenidge, Amla, Warner, Watson etc. If Bevan plays then probably Gilchrist is the favourite, though not confirmed as ABD can also keep. Now you can also be funky and open with Ponting, Abbas or Jones. The middle 3 is hard to displace mostly. You could technically go with Hussey, Abbas, Jones, Symonds or Buttler in place of either of Dhoni/Bevan but really, you shan't. Dhoni slightly ahead of Bevan for being the keeper and providing better flexibility for the opener. Now on the other X, it can be a fistful of all-rounders, dependent on the other position, in Dev, Klusener, Flintoff, Imran, Shakib (yes in indeed is viable here, quite an underrated ODI player), Watson (ideally should open if plays), etc. If you have batting all-rounder as an opener like Jayasuriya (mostly him) or Watson, I think Klusener will be the best pick; while I will go Dev if it's just a normal batter. The 4 bowlers pretty much picks themselves in Akram, McGrath, Garner and Murali, though there is one exception. Ideally you could go with Saqlain (not so much Warne imho) in place of Murali or Starc for either of Garner/McGrath, but hardly most do. Now, onto the exception, it's Shaun Pollock. He is too good an ODI player, and to include him and strengthen your 8, you have to bin either of McGrath/Garner. You can if you want to especially when having a bowling all-rounder at 7, like Dev.
We were not considering immortals (i.e. Woakes, Jadeja etc.) for fair competition.I agree with almost all of this.
For the atg XI I'd go
Tendulkar
Lara
Kohli
Viv
ABD
Dhoni+*
PollockWoakes
Akram
Garner
McGrath
Murali

Kallis is very easily replaceable here by Gibbs and Cronje both. Kallis is mostly here for his bowling as Lance is not good enough to bowl 10 overs regularly at this level, but even then Cronje is almost as good an option. Can really good in any way among these 3.
No way. FdV was a top tier ODI bowler. I rate him REALLY highly, like I think he made World E or something. He was miserly taken to the finest level. Steyn wasn't even better than Morkel in ODIs imo.FdV? Surely Steyn/Ntini over him?
Cronje was never near Kallis as an all rounder and even by considering batting alone Kallis exceeds by far as the difference in their average is higher than strike rate….De Kock+

Gibbs to open, Amla at 3. And like if Cronje plays he bats at 5; giving SA better flexibility. Kallis being too slow at times in ODIs isn't a criticism I bestowed on him, but almost all the Saffa and opposition fans of late 90s early 2000s does.Cronje was never near Kallis as an all rounder and even by considering batting alone Kallis exceeds by far as the difference in their average is higher than strike rate….
and Gibbs as no. 3 ? seriously??
Going by impact 98 Knockout Trophy was solely about the performance of Kallis..
Kallis definitely fits easily in an all time South Africa XI
