His average against India is 22. Only 4 games, but three of them were pretty big ones (CT, Asia Cup and WC). Also, he definitely had Sachin in trouble in the WC. Seems like one of the rare spinners who have the potential to do well against India (as did Saqlain).

The spell he bowled to Sachin in the SF was absolute quality. Will bowl half as well and get a bagful.

Agreed with salman in that he doesn't look like a cricketer coming to the end of his career at all.

Can we also have this type of thread for Botha and Harbhajan.
TBH, I don't like watching any of these three - third being Harbhajan when he used to bowl the doosra. But they apparently bowl within the rules, so I guess it doesn't really matter that they are not all that pretty to look at.

Anyone else thinks that the ICC has discreetly advised the BCCI to let Harbhajan know that his doosra is simply not on; and that's why he has abandoned it completely?

I just don't think Botha is a very good spinner full stop, whatever benefits he may or may not derive from his dodgy looking action. Have rarely seen him bowl an effective doosra. SA should not even hesitate to play Tsotsobe or Peterson over him. Tsotsobe is surely the unluckiest bowler going around in world cricket, averages around 19 in ODIs and still can't get a game.

As for Harbhajan, he has also become a very predictable and defensive bowler lately in all formats.

Botha's actually banned from bowling a Doosra. (linky)

He had a mean flexion of 26.7 degrees when tested. Which means he's either very honest and bowled exactly how he does in match situations or his action is so rank poor it's way over even when he tries to bowl without so much elbow.

Maybe you should stop looking at the wickets haul only, and start watching matches where Ajmal is bowling to see who he's owning and who he isn't.

Ajmal has not owned India as Salman says ownage is what Mendis did to India in his first year I will use a boxing terminology and say Ajmal has won his battles with India on points.

As I stated earlier Ajmal is a Saqlain like spinner and Saqlain did trouble India quite a bit. So has Ajmal

Saeed Ajmal has bowled well against India, there's no doubt about that. Whether you'd call it "owning" depends on how stringent you are with the definition of owning. And while you could argue that he was unlucky not to get a wicket or two more in the World Cup semi-final, he was very lucky to get a Suresh Raina lbw in his favour in the Champions Trophy match.

If only Ajmal did not chuck, I would have far more respect for him. Though he has been bowling well, I think he is becoming too much dependant on the doosra, which is starting to get picked up by better teams.

Ajmal has a decent off break his dismissal of Petersen at the oval test was a prefect example of mixing your off breaks with the doosras. Its the odi's where he bowls a lot more doosras as batsman go across the line more in this format.
