Run Up to the World Cup

I'll be happy enough if England wins. They have a great side and have never won a world cup. Their transformation since the lows of 2015 world cup is also quite surprising. How they went from a team that had test players playing clueless cricket in a format they don't like to a team with some of the best short format specialists in the world still puzzles me.

Big part of it was the luck of happening to have the players with the appropriate skills. I don't think the same plan (picking a whole bunch of short-form specialists and stacking the team with batting) would have worked for England in 2002, nor would it work for most teams now. The people in charge in England who planned and executed whole thing deserve a lot of credit for it. It would be a big disappointment if it doesn't pay off and England don't win.

Yes, they will be deserving winners if they do so. All points to India vs England final. But I don't think it will happen. One of them will get upset in the semis, most probably by the Aussies. And we will get to hear Burgey's WC boasting again.

Yeah it's stupid and nonsensical of BCCI to ask ICC for Pakistan cricket team to be banned and they should be laughed out of the joint. If they really care about their "principles", they can give them a W/O (even if it happens to come in a knockout game).

Which is not to say that I'm absolving Pakistan of their wrong doings, or that India have no grounds for grievance with Pakistan, but it's got nothing to do with their cricket team.
This is wrong imo.

The principle isn't that "we won't play states which support terrorism (SWST)" or something like that, the principle is along the lines of "we don't want to reward/enrich SWST" and "we want to provide disincentives to SWST". The opposite of both happens with a W/O.

If Australia win again, I will stop watching world cups. Sick of seeing them ambling in to lift the world cup making all the hype, build up and speculation pre world cup look silly. They should win something in T20s may be.

If Australia won this it would bee the first time in 30 odd years that one side would have half of all the world cups.

We have to stop selecting head-up-arse avant-garde teams to ever do something in T20Is.

So agree with this.

They are just killing the world cups. It's like Michael schumacher in his heydays. Leaving nothing for anybody else.

While everybody is actually preparing for JAMODIs and seem to take some meaning from them , Australia just **** around for 4 years and then come to the world cup and bull doze everybody.

Stevens is easily my least favourite bowler to watch in the whole world, that style of bowling really should be absolutely clobbered into the middle of next week. If I was a Kent fan I would be absolutely mortified every time I see him waddle up to the crease

Australia are not winning this. They will not even make finals. The only way Australia succeeds is if everyone else drops the ball. Not happening.

Australia are however a bit like what Germany are for Football. They are always ''there abouts''. I think the West Indies's chances have just risen. I might predict India first with West Indies, mercurial Pakistan and England bringing up the rear. I do think England will get either to the semis or the final before shitting their pants at the last hurdle.

I hope England win. Easily playing the best ODI cricket for a couple of years and their keys are in form. But there's an unusual amount of 'on their day...' about the Aussies, Pakistan and West Indies. NZ flatter, India should challenge but will **** themselves against the movement. Already been a ****ing weird year for Test results and you get the feeling that'll spill into the WC.

Australia haven't won an ODI series in two years. In fact they've barely won an ODI in just as long. From memory Australia have maybe won 5 ODIs since Pakistan toured in 2016.

For Australia to win would be a monumental upset victory. I think it really is between England and India, with any potential outsiders being Pakistan and the West Indies. New Zealand and South Africa are good chances of making the semis.

The wheel turns and I'd now rank Australia and Sri Lanka to be the two sides who are least likely to win the world cup - a far cry from 12 years ago when both played in the final.

I am not sure if you've been following SA lately but they are completely shite. This is probably their worst team ever going into the world cup. I can't see how they can end up making the semis.

This is quite possibly the most treasonous thing I have ever read here

If England wins I shall definitely roam around central London on that night to experience the atmosphere. In my experience, England doesn't have that much passion when it comes to their National Sport. But a World Cup win just may make things very lively again who knows after how many decades.

Only worth mentioning if you're going to do it naked.
