Road to IPL 2009.

He's desperate for money is my guess, he even showed up on that terrible new BBC show "The Hole in the wall" (see the OT thread), reaching new levels of direness.
I wouldnt say that. More likely he is trying to cash in on his name before he gets forgotten and disappears into the anonymous life of an ex-cricketer.

Goughy wants to play in IPL.

Wouldn't ICL be a better option for him money-wise, but obviously he is looking for "buzz", so he has got a good reason there.
IPL could be (is) a bridge too far for Goughy. Best bet is to go with the ICL and bowl at the likes of Ryan Campbell. I couldn’t see him getting a gig in the IPL unless as he admits it’s for a few games only.

I don't think Goughy would be too effective at this stage of his career in the IPL where he would be pitted against some of the world's best batsmen, so ICL is a better option for him where he would feel at home among all the retired oldies from yesteryear's, and he might also get a better deal for himself playing in the ICL as compared to IPL.

Yeah I would agree, he had pretty much had it as an ODI bowler pretty much 4 years ago, and he would now be facing a similar calibre of batsman on a regular basis, don't see it going well tbh.

Hmm, yeah probably, either way he's popping up in a lot of these horrible game shows that involve celebrities at the moment.

Bangalore should go all out for him. Quality bat, fielder, handy bowler and offers leadership.

Then there is Johnson and Haddin too in the frame, i think Haddin should play for Royals and replace Akmal, and Johnson could fit well into either Daredevils or Kings XI squads.

Royals is already too tight, especially when they already have Smith, Watson, Tanvir and Warne. It depends on who's free and who's not. A better option would be Punjab or Delhi.

As i said in my earlier post in this thread, during the transfer period the looks of almost every side in the IPL could change dramatically, so i won't be reading too much into how the current squads look like.

But having said that i would like teams getting some sort of loyalty thing going, so that a foreign player doesn't find himself turning up for a new franchise every season.

Yeah if Ganguly faces the axe then Ponting could step in as captain for Knight Riders, i don't know whether the Royal Challengers have any Aussie capable of leading the side in case Dravid is shown the door, well in that case Cameron White can do the job.
Ponting being active in International cricket means his availability will be subject to Australia's tour schedule, so he won't be made captain. Also, his performance in the IPL last year was staggeringly pathetic.

Replacing Laxman with Gilly is a wise move, as Laxman never really looked like bringing the unit together or garner the respect of his mates. However, for anything to happen for Chargers, they first need to get a message to Afridi that he is no superstar who can get away with pokes at his captain, while being a complete asshole himself. It's not Pakistani cricket, but a ruthless showbusiness, where you're good as only as your performance and not silly perceptions.

Want to see Mumbai Indians get rid of Robin Uthappa and get a fast bowler like Sreesanth.
Mumbai need some batsmen. They can possibly buy out Sharma from Hyderabad, Cheteshwar Pujara from Kolkata or Sahil Kukreja from Punjab- just about any of those players from Punjab or Kolkata who were offloaded by their team owners.

Looking forward to another quality season supporting Bangalore. Nah, last one was good fun, just hope they work out the scheduling issues, a bit of an overload last time.

I don't think Gough would be too bad actually as an occasional IPL pick. He can still bowl quickly just only for short bursts - then he's basically knackered for a while.

So who are you going to support this season then?
