Road to India in Australia 2024-25

I wouldn't read too much into this game for an Australia tour. If this pitch is comparable to any Australian deck recently it's the botched gabba pitch we produced vs SA when head got a big score and noene else made runs. You won't see the inconsistent bounce + 25 overs of sharp movement for the seamers paired together when India tour here.

I wouldn't be confident in ruling out any sort of pitch this summer given the sheer variety of decks we've seen rolled out here of late. It's the same people in charge!

Sarfaraz surely locked in after this hundred

Meanwhile Pant looking as dangerous as ever. Great to see him back.
Will be fascinating to see how he fares abroad on bouncy pitches.

Great to see him back. Such a talent. Can't see him keeping gloves once Kohli retires, could average more without the workload. Plus less strain on the knee.

Sarfraz is a bit of a hack against pace/bounce/swing, though manages to get runs against it in unorthodox manner.

It does feel mean to say this about someone who's just put on a run a ball 150 but yeah I can't help but feel like I'll be pretty annoyed with the bowlers if he makes a score of note at Perth especially. He obviously will deserve a chance but his entire setup at the crease seems so optimised for low bouncing pitches that it's hard to see him being able to make all the radical adjustments necessary to cope with extra bounce.

Whatever it takes!!!
The one thing in his favor is his height. For him a lot of balls that gets regular batsmen in a tangle about vertical or horizontal bat is not an issue. He will cut balls off a good length at Perth most likely.

Nah I think that's one of the shots where he'll get most in trouble. That deflected back cut to third man which was so productive today has a bad habit of going straight into gully's breadbasket on pitches with bounce, just sliding off the face.

I guess we will see. He just has to manage to get it up and over, for me.

If he flashes really hard he'll probably be okay (though third man is a serious catching position at Perth in particular), it's the little dab which is hazardous and he scored a lot of runs with that today.

Not surprised. Always been full of himself and the way he carried on after that AB run out in RSA and usualy the first to throw the ball right at the batsman's head every time he is dominated by a batsman. Literally the worst guy to make anything look cool when you are that much of a beta.

India fans must be rubbing their hands with joy during the current Shield games.

Smith moved back down the order from opener and made 3 & 0. Khawaja also made 0, while Marsh made 9 and didn't bowl, despite declaring beforehand he's ready to bowl lots before and during BGT.

Australia also need a new opener whereby out of the candidates a 19 year old in his 6th FC game made the most runs with 2 & 43, with Harris close behind with 16 & 26

Only bright spot is Carey's in a purple patch at the moment and made 42 & 123* after 90 & 111 in his last match
