Road to India in Australia 2024-25

For one Smith actually wanted to open, but even beside that the fact that he has been around for a while in of itself makes him infinitely more qualified to open than Green is

It's just a truly atrocious idea in every single conceivable sense to think Green is a red ball opener, he either bats middle order or he's not in the team at all

Green has a very large front pad to be opening at test level, though imo the rest of his game probably suits it, if he's not going to be bowling. The biggest issue I have with him is an inability to rotate the strike, which hopefully he's worked on.
Love how much this applies to Watson, even right down to the bowling load.

Green not really being fit is a great excuse to drop Smith down to 4 and pick a proper opener really. Let Green recover from his injury properly instead of making him bat and field with a stiff back.

I don't see the point of picking Hardie when Marsh is there - I know he doesn't bowl heaps but there aren't many teams with a top six batsman who is more capable with the ball tbh. He just needs a spell a two per day and that's fine. It may require more rotation of the specialist quicks throughout the summer but I think that's better than weakening the batting.

Peter Lalor reports here that Green will miss the first BGT Test, and might miss the whole summer.

Might mean Hardie debuts?

If article is true it has some breaking news as it says:

"Steve Smith has told them he doesn’t want to open..."

It's a good thing if it forces them to do that. IMO one of the downfalls for Aus in some recent long Test summers has been the refusal to rotate bowlers and keeping the same 3 playing every game, and being ****ed by the end of the summer, unable to bowl out sides in the 4th innings

Don't think Marsh will bowl much. More pressure on big 3, quicks.

India to leave for Australia 2 weeks early & A team would already be there.
T20Is in SA would be with second string side.
Indian test team will play last test again nz from 1 Nov to 5 Nov

Australia A vs India first unofficial test start from 31st oct and 2nd from 7 Nov so main player's like jaiswal gill sarfraz can't play Against Australia A .

I would like some of batters to Play against Australia A for better preparation

Well anyone not selected in last Test vs NZ can fly to Australia early to play the A game (eg. Sarfaraz)

Aussie side is a bit old isn't it? Here are the ages during the BGT (assuming Green injured)

Khawaja - 37 (38 in Dec)
Lyon - 37
Smith - 35
Starc - 34
Hazlewood - 33 (34 in Jan)
Carey - 33
Marsh - 33
Cummins - 31
Head - 30 (31 in Dec)
Labuschagne - 30

Of the fringe players, Boland (35), Neser (34), Harris (32), Bancroft (32) and someone mentioned Whiteman (32). Renshaw's a pup at only 28

Exactly the reason I don't want to mess green around. Where going to lose a fair few players to retirement soon. Having him at 4 gives me some sense of security.

We're all used to cricketers reaching the end of their careers by the early 30s but we have fast bowlers now extending their international careers into their mid and late 30s. Even Anderson was (unfairly) forced into retirement. The Indian and Australian teams look like pensioners compared to eras gone by but older teams are becoming more prevalent and fans haven't caught up with the trend. It even seems young fast bowlers take a while to become resilient to test cricket and are much fitter for the task when they get into their 30s. Batsmen (in Australia at least) are inconsistent until they get into their late 20s early 30s.

I'm not as worried by the ages of Australia's side as I am of the fitness of the bowlers and inconsistency of the batsmen coming through.

Sarfaraz maybe H Rana Dayal Mukesh can be picked for A series.
There are 2 4 day games.
Pretty sure Jaiswal Gill Jurel will play second one.

The team playing vs BD in T20Is will be same against SA.
