Road to India in Australia 2024-25

Unpopular opinion, but finch wasn't given enough chances opening. Did well in the uae then got binned after failing vs the best attack in the world.
The funny thing is they dropped Renshaw for averaging 33.47, Finch then averaged 27.80 and he was also dropped for Bancroft (26.23) and Harris (25.29)

Fun Fact: India have only ever won one 5 Test series away from home. They won 1-0 vs West Indies in 1970/71

Has there been any reason given for Smith sitting out?
For someone who practices and lives for shadow batting like he does it seems strange to miss a game. Several articles hinted it's because of the uncertainty in his test batting position, whatever that means?

I prefer to think he couldn't get a NSW opener gig because Dan Hughes and Nic Maddinson have those spots locked up 😉

Smith as opener is really dumb and cant understand what they get by moving a atg out of his favoured position but anway not complaining as indian fan opening is where we want him thats our best chance with bumarh and shami

Don't think Marsh will bowl much. More pressure on big 3, quicks.

India to leave for Australia 2 weeks early & A team would already be there.
T20Is in SA would be with second string side.

a) Smith put his hand up to do it and b) Shami is not available for this series

Green has a very large front pad to be opening at test level, though imo the rest of his game probably suits it, if he's not going to be bowling. The biggest issue I have with him is an inability to rotate the strike, which hopefully he's worked on.

The idea of Green opening was batshit insane when it was first proposed last season, and it's still batshit insane now. The sort of idiotic thinking that could absolutely kill his career

He's gonna kill his career anyway unless he learns how to rotate the strike. **** him, man up and contribute for a change.

I don't disagree that strike rotation is definitely an area of his game that he could and should work on, but putting him into a role he has never done at FC level at all is NOT the way to do that

TPC hadn't done it either and played an ATG 4th innings knock last summer vs WI at the Gabba. And that at age 34 or whatever. Green needs to adapt now or die.

I just fine the idea that after greens done decently at #4 where gonna shuffle him around to accommodate a declining Smith who's lost his stumps across formats and moved to opening because of how far he'de declined against the older ball really silly. Messing around a guy who could bat 4 for 10 years (nevermind the bowling) on the hope Smith suddenly figures out his stuff against the best attack in the world is frankly silly.
